    Muir Woods (color)

At this size I much prefer the color versions. I know it is heresy, but the B&W versions seem busy and detailed (I know, what's wrong with me?) Here the rich tones of brown and green make the composition. Regardless, nice work.

    Stay-at-home pantry cooking photos

I rarely think to shoot my food. Today was the end of a fabulous pot of red beans, chorizo and Andouille sausage. Local sausage (Idaho has a large Basque population), lots of heat and served over rustic cornbread. Tomorrow is rock fish ("Pacific snapper") so if it turns out well I'll try my best...

Actually, Lyndee, you should buy 1 of each style of coffee maker, grinder, and a variety of coffees from around the world and test 'em all and report back. Think of them as you would a pair of shoes—essential and a part of your persona.

    Coffee and Coffee Maker Recommendations

My brother grew coffee in the Nilgiri hills of south India, and even though most is from Robusta beans, roasted well they make for rich coffee. Yeah, East African beans can be citric/winey, but my roaster in SLC does it just right to tame the acid without killing too much of the flavor (as...

    Coffee and Coffee Maker Recommendations

Good beans from a good country can be wrecked by a bad roaster. Bad beans from a bad country can be improved by a good roaster. My brother managed coffee and tea plantations in India and east Africa for some 40 years, and consulted in Vietnam and China. Nowadays country designations are less...

My hang up with Keurig and other pod-based machines, is the cost to "try it out". Unless you have a friend with one you can be out a whole lot of dough. And a bigger hang up, it the incredible amount of waste, pods are not recyclable, biodegradable or refillable. Coffee grounds make a great...
