    Is my nikon lens ok?

Thanks guys. I am still not sure what to do. Hate to send it back for repair and wait for months without a lens. Even though it is bought few days ago, i cant change it for another copy. I dont think there is such a rule here in Malaysia. I need to call my dealer and see what he says. to be...

    Is my nikon lens ok?

Hi Jos, I saw only your single post. So what happen to it in the end? Did you receive a new copy or what? Mine is not too bad. It does not get stuck but there is some slight grinding sound. I am a novice, i am not sure if this is normal experience or not and i wanted confirmation. If experts...

    Is my nikon lens ok?

Hello forum friends I just recently purchased a nikon 24-70 after the demise of my 18-200 lens during a holiday trip. I have been using this 24-70 for a few days and everything about its image quality is good. However i did notice that the zoom ring from 24-50mm range has a bit of grinding...

    Landscape advice

Thanks for all the comments and pictures. I agree that you cant compare the 10-20 and the 17-35. My main problem is trying to see which lens give me a better 'perspective'. I am hoping those of you whose main interest is landscape can advice me on how 'important' it is to have a lens wider than...

    Lens for family vacation

Its a difficult question. As for me when i go on vacation i find that most of my shots were done in the 18-135 range. I rarely need the reach of 150-200. So it really boils down to the type of shots you like to do. For me it is usually landscape and some candid shots. Actually the 18-200 is...

    Dilemma choosing lenses

18-200VR is a very good lens for what it is meant to do, the perfect travel lens. I have no regrets in using it at all. But for special photo assingnments like weddings and sporting events you definitely need a faster lens. It helps a lot. My advice would be to get the 18-200VR and when the time...

    Landscape advice

I love all those shots and i still cant make up my mind. This is literally causing me sleepless nights. Problem is if i miss the 17-35 now, i probably will never get it anymore. But the ultra wide angle effect of Sigma is very tempting.

    Landscape advice

Hello everyone, I am not sure how to put this ..... lets say i now have an opportunity to buy either a Sigma 10-20 plus a Nikon 85/1.4 or only one and my lens of my dream the 17-35. I have always love landscape shots and that is what got me into photography. The 85/1.4 comes into the picture...

70-200VR is a must own lens

Warren that is a real gem. Liked it very much. Woody, your deer shot is a beauty. Great composition and color. Sandi all of them are nice shots and quite funny too. Warren if the purpose of this thread is to make us lust for this lens then you got me. I am in deep trouble now ....

    105VR or 85/1.4

Thanks Woody. Looks like you have successfully sold me to the 'Cream machine' and cost me a few extra bucks along the way  Thanks to all that have contributed to this thread, its really amazing how people power can sway a man's decision. This forum has its dangers

    105VR or 85/1.4

Woody, just had a look at your works and they are very very good. I guess coming from you, the 85/1.4 is certainly magic. Anyway i still feel even the 105VR would be magic in your hands  The more i look at portraits the more i realise that the real skill is in the manipulating of the...

    105VR or 85/1.4

I find it incredible that everyone here gives the nod immediately to the 85/1.4 over the 105VR for portraits. Looks like i am starting to be swayed again. I have been up and down this for dont know how many times, it really is tiring:Confused: I keep reminding myself that at the end of the...

    Tribute to 105DC

thats very sharp at f2. Actually i am beginning to realise that its not so much the lens but the person behind that makes the shot. I like the first one very much, great lighting.

    105VR or 85/1.4

Thats a nice candid shot. I like that. Maybe i like the first one better  But i am surprised that there really is a perceivable difference between the two. Oh boy .. more doubts and questions now ... just when i thought i will be buying the 105VR this week.

    105VR or 85/1.4

Thanks for the advice. I guess the key is still indoor lighting where a 1.4 makes a big difference.

    105VR or 85/1.4

Do you mean if i took a photo with the subject at 5ft with an 30mm lens and i change it to an 85mm lens, the perspective will not change if i move back up till i reach the same perspective as the 30mm lens. How come i keep hearing comments that tele lenses becasue of their compressive effect...

    105VR or 85/1.4

Thanks David, i think you made a very good point about missing the shot if it hunts too long. Geez, never thought of that. Might prove crucial. Those links are very informative.
  28. M

    105VR or 85/1.4

Candid shots it will be. I have heard that comment before about the hunting bit and that had me a bit worried. Do the others face the same problem? My guess is the first one 85/1.4 and the second 105VR. Both are good shots, though i like the second one better.
  29. M

    105VR or 85/1.4

I will be definitely using the 50/1.4 the most. I just thought a longer lens can give a different perspective thats all. Length wise should not be a problem as the child is still young and i can sort of position him. But and this is a big but ... if the picture quality between those two is not...

    105VR or 85/1.4

I have looked at some of the threads with similar issue but still cant decide. My main purpose is for children and portraiture, mostly indoors. Is there any noticeable difference between these two lenses? I am tending towards the 105VR as it has got an additional benefit of macro that i...

    How to blend channels?

    How to blend channels?

I am reading this book 'skin' and there is one section that i cant seem to perform. It is called 'layer blending'.
