    Post your D600 / D610 captures

First week with my D600....and the kit lens, 24-85mm. I don't care what anyone says, I love the D600 and I'm extremely happy with my purchase.

Thanks! :-) I'm a Lightroom user, but I think I know what dodge/burn would be on the Lightroom side :-)

    I wanna see you!!!

Ok, as promised, here's a quick snap from today. I'm not a portrait person so this is now exactly world class :-) It was made with a tripod and the camera timer.

    Trivial things that annoy you.

Someone not crushing the milk jug before putting it in the garbage! Oh yeah...of course you don't care about crushing it...you're not the one that has to drag the can down the hill to the street! :-) LOL I like to keep the volume down to just one garbage can per week.

    That's 2,160mm mounted on the V1 :-)

    I wanna see you!!!

You're too kind :-) I'm thinking about going out sometime next week to attempt a 'real' SP. Something more than a quickie like this. It's always difficult if you're doing it yourself. Thanks!

    I wanna see you!!!

Sorry for the watermark. It's not supposed to show up in the gallery I have this image in. Anyway... The classic outstretched arms self-portrait.

    back to drawing board again

I have the V1 and also have an Olympus OM-D E-M5. The E-M5 has better image quality and is essentially the same physical size as the V1. As far as the lenses go, I love the Nikon 1 kit lens build quality and optical quality, but Olympus has some high end primes available and other companies...

    Updated D600 rumors & specs

I'm hoping the rumors are true about the D600 and the price as well. If the body is $1,500 for example, that would be awesome. That would be right up my alley. I don't 'need' a D600, but I miss having a D700 so the D600 would be good for me...and it would be able to shoot video if I need...

Thanks Desmond. I had the 30-110 on for that one. Couldn't get too close. Maybe with the 10mm.

Various V1 images I've been shooting...

Here's a variety of shots from the not so distant past with my V1. These are all with the Nikon 1 lenses. I don't have the FT-1 adapter.

Quick help please. Will this lens work on D5100?

He did send it back and the tracking shows it will arrive today. If it's exactly like I sent it to him, I'll refund his money 100% immediately. I think it was the fair thing to do. I would hope someone would do that for me too.
  17. O

Quick help please. Will this lens work on D5100?

I do think it's a firmware issue of some sort. The 5100 was released a few years after the 28-300VC I think. Whatever the cause, I know it 'should' work, but it's not. At least I know what's going on now. Sort of :-)
  18. O

Quick help please. Will this lens work on D5100?

I respectfully disagree. It does not. The 28-300VC doesn't need in body motor...Where's the AF screw? Not there. Impossible to use the in body motor. The 28-75 needs in body motor...See the screw/slot for the AF motor stud to seat into? I do...(left side of photo)

Quick help please. Will this lens work on D5100?

More research and a call to Tamron proves the lens 'should' focus on the D5100 because it's a completely electronic lens in the sense that it has no mechanism that mates to the camera body to do focusing (that little slot on older lenses that needs the in-body AF motor). BUT for some reason...
  20. O

Quick help please. Will this lens work on D5100?

I saw a footnote in their chart. #3....says no AF motor in body (I knew that)...'requires motor to function'. Well that's a big bummer if that's true. I'll have to call Tamron to confirm but it looks like the notes says it does need the motor Compatibility chart...

Quick help please. Will this lens work on D5100?

I need to get back to this guy ASAP so any quick answers would be appreciated. Question about Tamron AF 28-300MM F/3.5-6.3 XR Di VC. I sold a this lens to a person on ebay and he claims it doesn't work on his camera. He has a Nikon D5100. (I was using it on a D700 and it worked fine.) 1...

Glass LCD protector for Nikon 1 V1

Thanks Jerry. I went ahead and bought the Vello. Looks similar to the GGS anyway from the description.

Glass LCD protector for Nikon 1 V1

Is it like the GGS protectors if you've ever seen the GGS version? I love the GGS LCD protectors. I want to get a protector but didn't see the right size yet. I'll check this one out.

V1 photos from this past week

I don't know why some people knock this camera. It's great and fun to use. Here's a few shots from this past week. All with either the 30-110 or 10-30 I think. I don't have the FT-1 adapter and I really have no interest in buying it. My goal is to keep the V1 package small. All edits...

    A V1 Sunrise

Thanks les-au. They are 'catkins'. It's where the seeds are made. They expand and stretch out longer in spring and lots of pollen comes out of them. Thanks JPS. You're probably right ;-) And I think you're correct about the botanical name too.

    A V1 Sunrise

I've been giving my D700 a break for awhile. The V1 is picking up the slack and it's fun to use, despite people whining about it not having enough buttons to press. The most important button to me works just fine, the shutter button. Having said that, I do wish it had a few more buttons...but...

    Nikon 1 V1 Firmware Update A 1.11, B 1.10

Thanks. I love my V1 too. I did try a few indoor non-flash photos yesterday after the update but I didn't notice anything unusual. There are some people (not on this forum) that swear there's something wrong with the exposures after the 1.11 update. I'll play around with mine this weekend...

    Nikon 1 V1 Firmware Update A 1.11, B 1.10

Some people have reported that they noticed the camera is now getting the exposures wrong (too bright) when taking non-flash photos after this 1.11 update. Has anyone here had any issues or noticed anything different for no flash photos? The flash photos seem to be very much improved for me...

Has anyone sent a camera to Nikon for repair recently?

Good news....got home today to find the camera sitting on my porch. Bad news is, they still haven't given me any info on what was wrong (but maybe they don't feel obliged to do that for warranty work) and they scratched the paint on the edge of the camera in front of the shutter button. Not...

Has anyone sent a camera to Nikon for repair recently?

Ok I just called them to see what the scoop is. I got the very same response. Camera is being evaluated to determine the problem. That's the same answer I got at the end of last week, so I suspect the guy is reading from the same script as the person I talked to last week. Each time I talk...

Has anyone sent a camera to Nikon for repair recently?

Ok then...now I'm feeling a little disrespected...LOL 9 days over the Christmas break??? My new V1 has been there since Dec 19 and STILL not a peep about what the problem might be or what they're going to do about it. I'm calling again today, but Tuesday they said they still have no info...

Has anyone sent a camera to Nikon for repair recently?

...I mean very recently, like within the last 2 months. Specifically, to the Melville, NY repair center. If so, was it a SLR and how long was it once Nikon received your package that they looked at the camera and communicated with you what the problem was and what they intended to do about it?

    J1 as a replacement for both LX3 and D40?

Rob Galbraith's family shooting with Nikon 1

There's an eerie silence coming from certain forums lately, regarding the Nikon 1. I suppose they're eating their crow so they have no ability to speak at the moment? No, it's not a perfect camera, but yes, Nikon was not blowing smoke up our rear ends with the claims about the abilities of...

The Fuji X10 Makes the Nikon 1 more of a headscratcher

It's been amazing watching all the hysteria about the Nikon 1 on various discussion forums. It was doomed to failed from the start, they say. It's too big (body), but no wait...it's too small too (its sensor). The images will be crap due to the 'small' sensor. There aren't enough buttons to...

Some photos from the last 2 weeks since my V1 arrived

In case you haven't seen these on my site or somewhere else I may have posted :-) .... The bottom line is, I love my new V1. First, the V1 with the 10mm and flash attached. Yes, I found a flash in stock! EXIF data is embedded in the photos if you know how to get it and are curious...

    Yellowstone Elk

Thanks everyone. Wouldn't it be nice if Nikon made an f/1.4 14-300mm lens that was as big as a Tamron 28-300 and costs $700? That's a dream world though.

    Yellowstone Elk

Still digging through my vacation photos (from mid July). I stopped on this elk in Yellowstone and thought I'd upload this guy. I really like it. I could use a better lens for this stuff, but for vacation photos I guess it's fine. Tamron 28-300VC. It's too slow to focus.

Desolation & Beauty - Mammoth Hot Springs & Jenny Lake / Tetons

Working on all the geyser photos and more too. I have some reading and so on to do this evening but I'm going to keep working on these too when finished with other things. I have plenty of the mandatory Old Faithful shots like this one. And of course it wouldn't be Yellowstone without bison...

Desolation & Beauty - Mammoth Hot Springs & Jenny Lake / Tetons

Thank you. I've never had this many photos to sift through so it'll take awhile, but I'll have more ready eventually. Having so many to deal with, it tends to make you want to hurry everything up and not give the photos the attention they deserve to bring out the best in the image....but I'm...

Desolation & Beauty - Mammoth Hot Springs & Jenny Lake / Tetons

SLOWLY but surely, I'm working on the 2,000 pictures I took during my 2 week vacation out west to the Badlands, Mt Rushmore, Yellowstone, Tetons, Rocky Mountain NP, Denver & Kansas City. For now, here's a few from Mammoth Hot Springs in Yellowstone and a few from the Grand Tetons NP. First...

    Sleepy Polar Bear

Not much else to do at the zoo I guess...other than sleep :-) Nikon D700 & Tamron 28-300VC I guess I'll throw a few others in from that trip to the zoo. While one slept, the other played. Watching the manatee. This guy looked a little depressed. I thought...
