    Dissecting the new MacBook Pro

Nothing surprising at all. I love the products and Jobs' end-to-end integration and don't mess with what's inside philosophy. Having just finished the Isaacson bio of Steve Jobs it's actually reassuring to see Apple continuing to take his Zen experience to the next level. I'll keep...

Share Are There Any Knife Connoisseurs Here?

Yeah. This weekend I went to the local gun show and, needing to get a present for a friend who did several big big big favors for me, splurged on a Chris Reeve Green Beret. It's the civilian version of the Reeve Yarborough that if given to every graduating US Army special forces personal. I...

Computer option for a University Student...

I'll give you a. my gestalt and b. my opinion. a. After owning this MB Air I say "why aren't all computers like this??". b. Ask the end user what he/she wants. MB vs. iPad is still too much of an apples vs. orange comparison. My home: 5 iphones not counting the old derelict abandoned ones...

    4S battery life

Light use Unplugged 100% charge at 5:10 AM Now, 12MN it's at 4%. Really deplorable battery life for a new phone. FYI I shut down all the background apps AND shut off location services. Worse. As an on-call obstetrician a dead-in-the-water new iPhone is unacceptable. I'm finding it hard to...

    4S battery life

Sucks WORSE than last week before the "upgrade". Tonight I'm at 27% after a day of light use 6:30A to 9:30P. I made a few calls never lasting 3-4 minutes. No web searching and nothing like maps or GPS used. Pandora maybe 1/2 hour on the ride home. 15 hours. Only 27% left. Something is amiss...

Hmmmmm....... Updated to 5.01 OS over the weekend. Unplugged my 4S at 6:30AM Now..... 16 hours later I'm at 28% remaining after a day of light use??? Would be dead dead at 23 hours. Lousy first impression. Underwhelmed with the fix on the first anecdotal day!!! Double Hmmmmmmmm.....????? V

Speakers for Airport Express and Air Play?

For anyone looking I'll suggest a $500 setup that's amazing in quality. First, don't limit yourself to Airplay enabled speakers, as this drastically limits your choices. The Zeppelin B&W is great sound at a big price. I like B&W and their sound and own two pair. The Zeppelin looks funky but...

Siri is amazingly accurate. She's also fun to play with! "Siri, will you marry me?" She responded, "No, lets just be friends. We hardly know each other.". "Siri, what's your favorite color?" "My favorite color is...well, I don't know how to say it in your language. It's sort of...

Texting from iPad iOS5, woo hoo!!

Well,me, as the senior guy (AKA oldest) in a group of 11 obstetricians we all use it bunches. With the understanding that texting confidential patient info is an absolute no-no we use texting all the time!! Texts like: "belly's prepped in c/s room...ready for you" "can ya' check my lady's...

Pretty neat functionality perk in the new iOS, eh??? Also, I'm vindicated:biggrin:. When the iPad 1 came out I griped about lack of texting. I got shot down with the "it's not a phone, silly you!" retort. The ipad is definitely a disguised phone all along!! Texting has an interesting twist...

    Bought new 11" MacBook Air

Aw heck, it runs PS quite well, just don't compare it to your bigger Macs. It's plenty adequate, given limited screen achreage and takes 5 seconds to accomplish what iMac does in 2! For basic in the field, on the road work I find it plenty adequate.

Anyone else holding off on Lion for the short term?

Nice though that Apple does NOT compel us to upgrade. My daughter left me with her Leopard (not snow) 12" Macbook when she procured her hot new 15" MBP. I'm using it as an extra web browser on the kitchen island for news, music, recipes etc. I cannot imagine how it could be better were I to...

I suspect that is true. I was in the local Apple store and all the machines are flawlessly humming away. Our machines filling our lives have months or years of data, quirks, tweaks, imperfect programs and corrupted data insinuated throughout their drives. A copy of Lion laid on top of our...
