    J&R has the 50mm f1.4 G AF-S for $399.88

Cash back notification came through today Like many of you, I ordered the 50mm lens the day it was available but unfortunately received backorder notification from J&R. I checked out with google and did not receive any notification from live.com about the purchase or pending cash back. I...

NX:Win - Performance - NX will not load D300 nef file.

Every once in a while I have a nef file that will not load in capture nx. In addition, the same file will not convert in view nx. I can convert the file using non-nikon software, but this is certainly not ideal. If anyone wants to give it a go, I will gladly make the file available, as I am...

    Disneyland fun with slow sync/panning

Yes. We surprized the kids for Christmas. We drove through the night on Saturday to miss the Sunday storm that blanketed most of Utah yesterday.

    Help with Sleepy Eyes

I had this problem with one of my kids with my D70. The problem went away with the D200 and D300. But in case the faster iTTL metering does not help, the workaround is to use the FL Lock button to avoid iTTL preflash altogether. I have my Depth of Field button located at the bottom front left...

    Kids at temple square SLC

I agree it is a great place to visit around Christmas. We try and make the pilgrimage each year. The kids marvel at the spectacle - it is truly something to behold. Last year we skipped the trek because of the baby, but this year it was well worth the effort.

Candid of my lovely daughter + action shot

Thanks for the comments. I've posted only occasionally over the past year but I am going to be more active now that my infant has become more animated and mobile. I have been lurking here (and of course, voting in the Gap contest - go Sam!)

    D300 Viewfinder Question.

I think it only lights up in af-s mode in af-c mode there is no focus indicator. If you are in af-c mode with no focus indicator, I believe it is normal. Switch the focus mode back to af-s and focus indication should return. Hope this helps.

Help in printing two photos, one page - NX

Forget capture for printing.... Use Qimage. I would venture to guess it is the easiest, cheapest and most robust printing program out there. It can do just about anything printing related - including printing multiple sizes from multiple directories with interpolation that is unrivaled this...

Help. Nikon transfer not seeing jpegs (nefs working fine)

I need some help. Nikon transfer is not seeing jpeg images from my sandisk ultra II 4G from D300. It sees nefs just fine and Tiffs also. I have uninstalled/reinstalled tranfer (and ViewNX) and reformatted card in camera. All Nikon software is upgraded to the latest versions, however I did a...

Christmas card done! Let me know what you think?

I thought it looked a little crowded too, but the power that be wanted individual shots as well. Thanks for taking the time to critique. The cards are back and they look great, except [more than] a little crowded - especially around the top and bottom. Where were you last night with this...

Christmas card done! Let me know what you think?

Thanks, I am always worried that too much flash will result in the appearance that they were cut and pasted. I just got them back and they look great. I'm hoping the lack of comments is due to the size of the image. I will try and post them smaller in the future.

Christmas card done! Let me know what you think?

I took these shots tonight at sunset with the wasatch mountains in the background and decided to make a Christmas card with them. Let me know what you think...it is still not too late to fix them before they go out. Shot with D300/70-200 VR in D2X color mode III with SB-800 GF diffuser (-1/3...

What happens when shooting in the dark?

You get eyes like this: His big sister turn out the lights just before I took the image. The results look rather startling. The shot was a stop or two underexposed (I was playing with the flash exposure compensation and forgot to reset it) so please excuse any noise. BTW, I'm glad to...

    D300/basic question...

I use it shooting in dark/variable conditions when I am shooting in manual mode and I want a fixed depth of field and a minimum shutterspeed. I suppose this would also be a good way to shoot wildlife, perhaps someone else will weigh in on the topic.

How not to use Nikon CLS

Thanks Chris (love the avatar btw) I have been too busy with baby and work to shoot or post much lately. Now I only have my little fuji digicam until my D300 gets here, so it is a good opportunity to post some humorous shots from the past year (my hard drive is full of them).

    Some portraits/candids from summer

I love the cautionary tale. I also love how instinctively he clutches the young chap who appears unaware of the danger. In reality it is not a sheer cliff face, there is an outcrop of lower ledges where I took this a year or two ago:

I know what you mean. We had been out of the diaper stage for over 5 years and now with a new energizer bunny, it begins all over - but this time it seems much more challenging to keep up as he is crawling, cruzing and climbing stairs at just 8 months. \

Tis the Season for Autumn Portraits

WB was an accident a setting left over from the day before shooting indoors in flourescent but -1 and -2 worked quite well - just a minor adjustment in NC to ameliorate the slight color cast. The SB 800 worked well coupled with my lightsphere II.

Thanks for the comments. I am pretty encouraged by the texture of these images - they are so close to what I recall actually seeing. I had considered scraping a couple of my lenses because of poor results but after months of practice, I am certain that it is just that the D200 is more...
