    Backing up an External

I bought a new 27" iMac back in the early spring, but have not figured this out yet. I use the internal 1TB drive for the OS, program files, a few random documents, etc. I have a 2TB external for my LR libraries, original photo files and exported edits. I would like to mirror it to another...

    Manual focus question

Great tips! Thanks for the hint about the magnifying eyepiece. I will look into it. jr1966...I turned 40 about 2 weeks ago :( I always heard about the eyesight issues at 40. Two weeks in, my eyesight is ok, but I swear I have a lot more gray hair than I did before my birthday!!!

    Manual focus question

Hi guys! Today I purchased a 50 1.8 AIS. It will be here Thursday. I have looked at the galleries on pbase, here and everywhere else I could find and decided that for $80 I could see if I could still do MF :) I will be using it on a D700. Will I need to purchase a split prism focus screen...

    Help me understand...

I agree with you, euua. I have shot DX for the last several years as I have shot sports for some local colleges. That is why I had not even considered FX. I'm just so in love with my new toy that I could not help but comment. Thanks for bringing me back down to earth and pointing out the...

    Help me understand...

Hi guys! I have always believed glass first, and I still do...as long as you have a D700 :)I really didn't see much difference in bodies over the years except for sublteties in DR, color rendition, more accurate WB, cleaner at high ISO's etc, but this one really blows me away. I have only had...

    Help me understand...

why doesn't everyone have a D700??? I just got one last week and am absolutely amazed at what it can do! I have owned just about every Nikon and Canon DSLR at some point and am truly amazed at the IQ this thing puts out. I just wish I had figured it out two years ago when they first came...

    Are your creative juices flowing?

I could use a little creative help, please...My son's school has an auction every year to raise money for the school. Each class donates one item to be auctioned off. He is in kindergarten, so I have not seen this event before, but it is rumored that some of these items go for $500-$1000. In...

    Strobed Bball

Hi guys. This was all new to me. I am used to lighting high school gyms. I liked the quality of the light. I was not sure exactly where to put the lights, so I shot a game prior to this using just ambient light. I was getting ISO 3200, f/2.8 and 1/400-1/500th. The new cameras are so good...

    More Strobed Bball

Hi guys! I appreciate the feedback. Keith-Gary is right about the sync speed...I was stuck at 1/250 and relied on the flash duration to stop the action. Stewda-I was covering UTC, but live in north Georgia. I actually have covered a few events for GSU, so I hope to see you around!

    More Strobed Bball

Hi Geoff. Thanks for your feedback. I see the OOF now that I did not see without your comments. The ambient was ISO 3200, f/2.8, 1/500. The lights are just 2 AB800's (direct at full power) on the catwalks. I opted to only light one end (I only have 4 lights-that lets me leave 2 there and...

    Strobed Bball

Hi guys! This was my first time attempting to strobe an arena this size (11, 200 seats). I was really nervous about getting the light right. There were two games and I was hired to shoot the second. I shot some from the first just to get warmed up and check the lighting. My husband was...

    PS Actions (Another attempt added)

Personally I love both edited versions. I really like a fully saturated look that pops off the screen. I agree that it can often be too much on skin tones (see my leaf thread LOL!), but I'm not sure it is here. All three are great, but my vote goes to the edited versions!

    EXIF Data Removed

My EXIF gets stripped when I post from Smugmug. I don't do it intentionally, as I agree we shouls all leave it in so we can all learn from it. The EXIF is still available if you go to my Smugmug site, but for some reason, it is not attatched when I post to a forum. I find it frustrating!

    Our little Pug Pup Bella

How funny! Pickles was a preemie and in an especially large litter, so she is TINY for a pug. We took her to a show and asked some of the breeders if they thought she was show quality. They said she was beautiful but way too small! She is only 12 pounds full-grown. Just a good handful! I...

    Lightroom 2 Question

Hi guys. I am hoping you can help me out with this. I shot a football game last weekend and need to organize the photos by player number. I created a collection set called "Football 9-27" and then created subgroups for each number (3, 4, 5 etc). I want to export them in these folders. Is...

    What Have You Forgotten?

I went to shoot a college volleyball game two hours from my house and forgot memory cards. I was so worried about pocket wizards, lights, batteries, etc, I forgot the memory cards! DUH!!! It is funny, because like many others have suggested here, I ALWAYS make a list of what to bring with me...

The only thing I can figure is that the other guy was using a much wider FOV than I was...I was just shocked that there was such a big difference!
