I shoot with a 5D-II and a D700. Both are good systems. I actually bought the D700 to use the 14-24 with AF. However, the lens didn't find much use and I sold it. Along the way, I discovered the amazing 105VR and the forgotten, cheap plastic lens, the 28-200G. So, I'm keeping the D700 to utilize...
Great shot! I luv this one. I managed to get some street pics in NYC recently. However, I used a 105VR and an evil Canon 16-35L-II
I'm a dual shooter. There are a couple of older Nikon lenses which can be had cheap that offer great value: The 28-200G is one of these gems. I bought a used one in mint condition for CAD $225 and luv it! Here's a set I shot with it...
Bokeh's not bad. Better than the 24-105VR (click on image for access to larger versions):
I'm dual shooting too. I can understand the OP's concerns. Canon stuff is lighter and more compact in most cases. Cheers.
I just check out your album. Most of your pics were taken @ 35mm, 50mm & 70mm. So, apprx 50-105mm in Full Frame.
I wonder if a 50/1.4 and 105VR will combo will suffice ... BTW, isn't a 180mm a big lens?
I plan to take a short trip to NYC in mid-May. Which two lenses would you recommend that I take along? I'm willing to buy/rent lenses if I don't have them. My initial thought is to take the 24-70G & 105VR.
It eventually comes down to testing out yourself. People glorify crappy lenses and complain about good lenses. Major review sites never blurt out the truth in their conclusions as they get ad $$s from the manufacturers and distributors. QC of some the new lenses are suspect too (a la 24-70G). I...
Great shot! You are right: This lens can turn something mundane into masterpiece if you get up close.
I love the 3rd shot! Great perspective and depth on that one. I used Photomatix Pro on an iMac to process the HDR. Cheers.
