    SB-600 with D300-D700

I think it is operator error. Also I leave auto iso on which may be a contributing factor. I think the flash compensation may be the key to the whole thing. Time for me to do some experimenting.

    SB-600 with D300-D700

Thanks for the reply, Wayne. I typically use bounce flash with iTTL indoors in Shutter mode and it always seems to be 2 or 3 stops overexposed. Same seems to happen when I use Programmed Auto.

    SB-600 with D300-D700

Seems whenever I shoot with my SB-600 on either my D300 or D700 the pictures are always overexposed. I shoot iTTL or iTTL-BL in either Programmed auto, apeture, or Shutter mode but it's always the same, way over exposed. I would think the iTTL would make a reasonable exposure but not the case...

    Puffins Galore

Great pictures. They are a very photogenic bird. Gone on several Puffin cruises out of Bar Harbor. All have been disasters with fog, high seas and no Puffins. I'll have to try again

    A goose a duck and a babe sigma 150 500

I use that lens quite a lot. It gets better with experience as it has a learning curve. On my D300 it is a good lens for wildlife but does require good light or high iso

Thanks for looking, Al. That house has been used for years and each new resident seems to build a new nest. I think this year we will put up a new one as we seems to get 3 clutches a year minimum.

    Cardinal in the wind

Storm front was moving in and this guy sat and posed for me while the wind blew his feathers. A second later he was gone. My first chance to snag a cardinal. Wish the light would have been better but I'll take it. [/url] RSC_4920

    RI Statehouse

Dez, If I get back to that area I will try and get those for you. This one is at 300mm from the same vantage point. The original above is at 116mm. I am quite impressed with this lens. As a full frame walkaround lens it seems to more than fit the bill.

    RI Statehouse

Out this afternoon with my new D700 and 28-300 Nikkor. I was photographing a historic cemetary close by the RI Statehouse and thought I'd give the lens a workout. I am very pleased with it's performance.

    Flash Issues

Could this be further streamlined by using Manual exposure mode to set the ambient and using the aperture or flash power to adjust the flash portion of the exposure?

    Flash Issues

Thanks for the quick and concise response. I will digest this and give it a try. Basically one test shot should get me in the ball park. What about auto-iso? Should it be turned off? Last weekend I shot a recital followed by a reception. The recital required auto iso because of low light and the...

    Flash Issues

I have been having over exposure issues with my D300 & D700 with my SB-600 off camera. I do much better with my D80 in Auto than either of the other bodies. Most of my flash work is event photos and it seems I can never nail the exposure. I need some input as to how to make it a little easier...

    ID Please

Thanks, not the best of conditions but he gave me one opportunity and I took it. I thought it might have been a Peregrin since we have several habitants close by. We live next to a cemetary and red tails like to hunt there for mice. Perhaps this guy wanted in on the action.

    ID Please

This guy stopped by our patio this morning. He posed for me before flying off. Unfortunately the light was terrible with dark, overcast skies. Just had to make the most of it. He looks like a falcon but if you can give me an idea I would love the information.

    anyone using a hard case?

I have a bag, backpack and a Pelican case with padded dividers. I store all my gear in the Pelican case and use the bag or backpack depending on the job. If the job warrants it I take the Pelican case but very few do. It's a system that works for me

My lovely wife put a new, gripped D700 under the tree this year. I added a Nikkor 28-300 f3.5-5.6. Over the past few years she has given me a gripped D300 and a Nikkor 70-200 f2.8, just to name a few gifts. I think I'l keep her....LOL

In search of the elusive puffin

We did see a few fly by in the fog. Small and fat and quick. I had my Nikon 70-200 with a 1.7TC on a D300. Had we had some visability I might have done ok but it was not meant to be. next year, maybe.

In search of the elusive puffin

Spent a few days in Bar Harbor and Acadia Park this week. My goal was to get a few pictures of a puffin.
