I managed to get up to VIR a few weeks ago for a club event, lots of fun, and access is much better during club events, enjoy a few favorites:

all those are with the d300, I left the d200 in the case, didn't want to look to crazy :) whats funny is the photog they hired was pretty minimal in camera equipment, but if the photos look good thats what counts, not what lens they used etc.

while doing this I discovered that a couple of lens caps are the ultimate play toy, she carried them all around banging them together :)

My daughter just turned one, its time to start teaching her who makes the best camera gear :)

thanks for the comments guys, hope the watermark isn't too distracting, I tried to make it light enough that you can enjoy the images, but it can't be removed...however I am starting to make serious money with my photos, so watermarking is a necessary evil...also, since I am not a licensed...

thanks for the comments guys...I think its about the best $1500 you can spend for serious sports photos, yes the AF isn't lightning fast, but a used AFS version is twice is much!

focus speed is just fine, it seems to focus as quickly as the 70-200...I hope to get out to the race track sometime to test it with some race cars :)

thanks for the comments guys...i think i won't go to another show until they have some high clouds in the forecast, so many photos were horribly backlit... also forgot to mention that these are all with no autofocus, it quit working on me, thankfully I could just set it to infinity and forget it!

Hi Bill-these aren't bad, and I agree it wasn't great conditions for airshow photos, the heat and haze and full sun really messed up a lot of my photos... I shot mine with the 70-200 VR with 1.4 TC...

I just visited Brookgreen Gardens on Sunday, its very nice, and only $12 admission...here are a couple photos: and of course you can shoot the pelicans doing their thing on the beech :)

This lens was my first 'real' lens, I used it with my D80. It was a pretty decent piece of glass, I used it to take one of my favorite photos I have ever taken: Don't forget that instead of buying the 100-300 f4, you can get the 70-200 2.8 and use a TC when you need the extra reach!

just to add my 2 cents...I used to own the Sigma 70-200 2.8 HSM (non-dg), then I replaced it with a Nikon 80-200 2.8 (non-AFS version) I shot some comparison shots with the 2 lenses at the same settings, both at 2.8, and the Nikon is clearly sharper with better contrast wide open, the Sigma had...

Yesterday the Duke Women played Michigan at home, and instead of taking the usual 2 bodies with 2 lenses, all I took was the D300 and 50mm 1.8, and sat at the offensive end of the court for both halves. What I ended up was some of my better shots that I have take in Cameron...

the D300/70-200, ISO was 800-1000 at 1/400 2.8, only post-processing was crop and sharpen in Picasa.

not basketball or football, but still it was Duke vs UNC in Cameron :) I like this one for the incredible symmetry :)

I was trying to get back into the sports photo groove by shooting a pre-season game at Duke tonight, this photo really struck me as being unusual, hope it brings a smile to someone else's face as well :)

well I did my first Triathlon on Sunday, the weather was horrible, it was quite a test of my D300, with a lot of shooting at ISO 2000 since it was so dark and rainy, I shot about 3500 frames and the battery was still at 50%!! Here are a few favorites I would like to share:

this last weekend the Ferrari Club of America held a track day at Virginia Intl Raceway (VIR), we were on the south course, which is fine for driving, but not good for photos, the cars are backlight pretty much all day! I still manged to get some decent shots: (the trick to get the 9 frame...

and happened upon this little guy, which by himself wouldn't be too interesting, until I realized he was swallowing another snake AS BIG AS HE WAS: took him about 40 minutes to swallow his prey and then slithered off :)

I lose/break sunglasses so frequently I don't spend much $$ on them :)

my wife took this photo of me driving in my Miata, she of course is sitting in the passenger seat, so the front of the Tokina 12-24 was only maybe 3 feet from my face: My conclusion is that having an ultra-wide is a big deal :)
