    Cool catchlights.

Very cute little girl !!! This makes me wonder how can I get the same contracted pupils if I were to shoot indoor? Most studio portraits I've seen have really big pupils because of the low light environment.

Is the Sigma 70-200 2.8 as bad at/near 200 as Popular Photograph says it is?

Harry, I have an AF-S 80-200 that I want to sell. PM me if you're interested :)

    Traveling with AB800

Thanks for your suggestion John. However I'm looking to do studio work later when I return to the US, at this point I might need to ship the AB800 instead of carry it

    Traveling with AB800

Good news for me, i'm traveling to Vietnam (actually it's going back) this summer. I plan to get a AB800 setup but I'm a little worried about the portability of it. I will need to fit 1 AB800, a large octabox (non-foldable type), and the heavy duty stand. The stand is about 42 inches which won't...

What do you think about this?

I'm not sure why it's blue like that, I shot this photo with only one SB600 mounted on my D70 (pointed almost straight up, indoor) Here's what I did: -Apply local contrast by using USM, i set the percentage to very low (below 5%) and the radius to high, about 70 pixel for a 6MPs image...

What do you think about this?

Thanks guys, the post processing is just a blank layer, white and black brushes in soft light mode. This is the first photo of my project (finally I have some ideas!!!)

    70-200 VR - New or used ?

The VR feature only helps when you're shooting still subject, it won't be able to stop action if that's what you're after. Lens repairing can cost hundreds of dollars, the warranty covers 5 years so you'll be fine buying a new one.

    70-200 in the rain?

I don't think any lens is water-proof. I'd cover it with a lens coat.

    D1H, wow !!!

I have to say I'm very impressed with the image quality of this camera. The color reproduction is on par with my D70, except the low resolution of course but still it's a NICE piece of equipment. Yes the ergonomic is superb, extremely responsive, and the 5fps, love it! :Guns:

    D2H for portraiture

Sorry I didn't explain myself clearer. I need the D2H because the D70's too small for my hands. Although it has wireless flash capability and such, I value the feel of the camera body more. As long as there's no downside to image quality of the D2H (comfirmed by these wonderful shots posted by...

    D2H for portraiture

Great pictures fks! Thanks to all who replied. I don't care much about resolution since I've never printed anything. My decision's made. Bye bye to D70 and 80-200

    D2H for portraiture

Thank you for the photos. Very crisp and clean. I'm thinking of getting a D2H because I need the body feel. Hope someone can post more portraits taken with this camera.

    I'm out of ideas

Guys, I'm thinking of trading my D70 and AF-S 80-200 for a D2H. Is D2H a good camera for portrait work? I know it's designed for sport use but how's the image quality in terms of portrait?

    I'm out of ideas

So I did a harddrive format this morning :Smoking: Right now I need some recommendations: -New camera, my D70 feels like a tiny PnS (ok maybe I exaggerate it but it's really small for me) -New lenses, I decided that I would quit shooting for the school paper so I could sell all my lenses to...

    I'm out of ideas

Really I can't think of anything to shoot now. I feel hopeless as I run out of ideas for portraiture work. I already tried my hands at landscape, macro,... but deleted all the shots because I'm incapable of seeing a deeper meaning or artistic quality in them. Not only that as I'm looking at the...

    Lens physics question

Thanks for all your responses. So how is it possible that some lens have an aperture larger than the focal length? For example Canon 50mm f/.95, Zeiss 50mm f/.75?

    Lens physics question

I'm curious about how the aperture of a lens regulates the amount of light entering the film/sensor. When the aperture is stopped down, why does the image size still stays the same and the light entering is less? Can anyone answer this question? Thanks.

    Rented 80-200 2.8 & 85 1.8, WOW

I'm still hesitant to buy strobes for indoor sport though. So most place allows you to use strobe/flash inside? Doesn't that distract the players?

Here's my solution to the problems I said above (if you don't like it I'll take it off)

    Grandson

The photo's too dark for my taste. Also the eye's too dead centered, you might want to crop the left side of the picture.

80-200 AF-D vs. 70-200 VR for the budget minded

I'd suggest you look up photo samples of the AF-D 80-200 and 70-200 VR for comparison. The AF-D 80-200 is a good lens but it's no way in the sharpness region of the 70-200 VR (and the AF-S 80-200). Congrats on your business btw

    Birthday Invitation Pic

I like the shot. Indeed it looks blurry but not too much. I'm not sure on your choice of desaturate the girl and leave the flowers colored though.
  33. H

    which would you get!!!

You can't go wrong with the AF-S 80-200mm if you shoot sport.

    Poses for portraits

I've been having troubles with telling my models about poses. Certain people have great creativity when it comes to posing but some people just sit there and constantly asking how should they pose. Is there any source for portrait poses? Thanks in advance everyone

What is it with Canon "L" Glass?

Yes, the gold ring on Nikon lenses means pro. I'm so proud of my AF-S 80-200 <3

    Woody skin treatment, first attempt

Tim, I took this shot in a bar, the wall was reddish. Originally the photo shoot took place outdoor but she couldn't stand the cold so we had to go inside  People were looking at us like we're creeps (especially me since I was shooting her with the stalker 80-200mm lens)

    Cheap camera bag

Recently I've been moving around a lot and the need for a camera bag arises. I need one that is cheap, maybe less than $30 , able to fit a D70 + SB600, a 50mm, 24-85mm and a 80-200mm. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance

    Critique my new shots please

Thanks everyone for your comments! I'm trying to fix the chin in the first 2 as I think they are distracting, too. Number 3 is soft because I had the shutter speed at 1/125 and she was swinging back and forth, also I blur the picture to achieve an airy look.

    My new AF-S 80-200mm F2.8

Thank you, I'm a beginner in photography (started in January this year) and that encourages me to take even more pics  Right now I'm a bit worry about my composition because I seem to shoot portrait a lot and I still can't find a composition that's not boring

    80-200 f/2.8 AF ED ///\\\ 80-200 f/2.8 AF-S

The focusing speed on the AF-S 80-200mm is very fast, it's almost instant focus . I don't think it's any way less sharp than the VR model. I usually crank my D70 ISO to the max when I have to shoot in low light and F2.8 gives me a pretty decent shutter speed. Hope that helps
