My wife is starting to get upset.

    I know the feeling... Two years ago I wanted better pictures for my daughters cheerleading competitions...bought a D50 and 18-55...two years later I have D700, D300, 80-200 AF-D, 18-200, 70-300 VR, Tokina 11-16, 50 1.8, 85 1.8, and SB-600. Don't know how it happened. I blame forums like...

**Update** Just for the record...Santa isn't getting me anything Nikon...

Santa came early here...D300 and 18-200vr. I think he may be bringing me a new backpack for Christmas day. A very good Christmas for me...

Too late...a fast AF-S telephoto is already haunting me. Maybe next year. Thanks.

    D300 or D90

Just an update... My new D300 should arrive sometime this week. I will be picking up a Sigma 70-200 after the new year. I took everyone's advice. Thank you.

    Which way??

An update to this thread. I ended up buying a D300...should get it sometime next week. Thanks.

    Which way??

73Z1, This option has been suggested to me before. The extra pixels would be nice when it comes to cropping but that is not at the top of my list. I am not unhappy with my D50 (with the exception of the viewfinder). I guess the question for me is: does AF-S and CAM900 trump CAM3500 and AF-D...

    Which way??

Thanks for the replies. I am glad to hear about the D300 and 80-200. I really like my 80-200 so I think I will go with the D300. Thanks again to all.

    Which way??

For indoor action (cheerleading) fairly good light on the floor (ISO 1600): D300 and 80-200 AF-D (in a pinch have 50/85 f/1.8) -OR- D90 and 70-200 AF-S (still have 50/85 f/1.8) I currently have a D50 and 80-200...looking to upgrade.

    Detailed D90 First Impressions -- Part I

Thanks for the first impressions. A question: I have a D50 that I have been happy with...but I think its time to upgrade. The D90 and D300 are the two cameras I have been considering. My gut tells me that I really should stretch the budget and get the D300. What are your feelings about...

    D300 or D90

I guess I need to re-think things a bit. Thanks. BTW your pictures are great...really like the isolated ones in your recent post. Thanks again...I will let you know what I end up doing.

    D300 or D90

Randy, So I would be better off with a D50 and a Sigma 70-200 HSM then with a D300 and a 80-200 AF-D? I suppose I could sell the 80-200 to fund the Sigma and still get the 300 (or maybe the D90). I don't think you're picking on me...I want to make informed decisions.

    D300 or D90

So D300 it is...the thoughts about the D90 ended up feeling like compromises (don't care about video). I am rather attached to my 80-200 AF-D so don't think I will be getting anything similar to it. I may at some point in the future go for the 70-200 vr or it's replacement. Thanks for the...

    D300 or D90

Thanks for the replies. Today is Monday and I am sure I want the D300. Tomorrow? Who knows? The good thing is I don't think I can go wrong with either one. I'm pretty sure I will end up with the D300. Thanks again for helping me with my decision.

I have been leaning heavily towards the D300 over the last few days. Thanks for the reply.

    D300 or D90

The wife gave me the green light for a new camera!! Woo Hoo!! What I have now: D50, 50 f/1.8, 85 f/1.8, 80-200 AF-D (Two ring), 18-55 kit While I shoot indoors and out, my main concern is indoor action. The D300 has faster frame rate, and (I assume) stronger AF motor. The question...

Does this workflow make sense to you?

I have spent more time in Lightroom and find that I can get closer to NX now though I still can't match it. So it looks like I will be using Lightroom. If Nikon would enhance ViewNX with some level of DAM capabilities I might switch back.

Good WA lens for shooting architecture

I have found myself shooting architecture lately. I find that I use my 18-55 kit lens for convenience. What are some good (read not too expensive) WA lenses with low distortion?

Does this workflow make sense to you?

Well I tried the presets from OnOne last night. I still can't match the results I get with Capture NX. I may have to bite the bullet and live with the odd interface. Thanks alot for the responses.

Does this workflow make sense to you?

Certainly agree with all your statements and would like nothing more than to stay in LR the majority of the time. Any suggestions on where I can find some of the better presets for LR?

Does this workflow make sense to you?

I really want to use Lightroom for all my work: importing, organizing, editing, etc. The problem is that my pictures look much better when I use ViewNX/CaptureNX, as much as I try I cannot get them to look as good in Lightroom. Would it make sense to use ViewNX to view new pictures, cull...

    NX:Gen - Workflow - Exporting to JPG

I have recently been trying my hand at stock photography. Of the photos that are rejected, most are rejected because of excessive artifacts. My question: Is there a general consensus on which program does the best job of converting a raw or tiff image to jpg? I have used both Capture NX and...

Questions About PS Elements and Lightroom

Elements will do some things in 16-bit. If you want to use layers for example you have to switch to 8-bit mode. Lightroom is a great applicaton for processing and cataloging large numbers of of raw files. You will still need some sort of editor if you want to do any pixel editing as you will...

PSE6 Organizer behavior when editing images

I posted this in the Raw Processor forum...probably should have posted here. I use the PSE6 Organizer instead of Bridge (guess I just got used to it). I have setup Photoshop CS3 as an external editor. My only gripe is that when I call CS3 from within the Organizer to open a NEF file, it...

PSE6 Organizer behavior when editing images

I use the PSE6 Organizer instead of Bridge (guess I just got used to it). I have setup Photoshop CS3 as an external editor. My only gripe is that when I call CS3 from within the Organizer to open a NEF file, it creates a copy of the original NEF that gets sent to CS3. After making my changes I...

    Vertical Grip for D50

Anyone use any 3rd party vertical grip with infrared shutter release for the D50? If so, I assume the shutter release is just that..no holding the shutter button halfway down for AF. How responsive is the shutter release? Can I reassign the AE/AF button to autofocus while using the vertical...

    80-200 F2.8 or 70-300VR?

I've used both the 80-200 and the 70-300vr...before using the 70-300 I was sure that I needed/wanted the 80-200. After using the 70-300 vr for a few weeks I am going to buy it...a great all purpose lens. I have the 50 and 85 1.8 primes I can use indoors and for me the extra reach indoors hasn't...

Need to shoot High School football

I will be shooting some high school football next year. Can I get some idea of what works in terms of a lens? I have a D50 and no telephoto lenses (well I do have a 85 1.8). What is the minimum aperture...I am assuming 2.8. What about focal lengh...200, 300, more? I have been looking at...

How important is AF-S and VR?

How important is AF-S and VR?

I am not talking about the merit of these technologies, I have used lenses with AFS/VR and can see the value. I am more concerned with where Nikon is heading. I had pretty much made up my mind to purchase the 80-200 AF-D because I liked the way it handled, the IQ, and of course the price...

    Next lens purchase

The indoor shooting I am doing is competitive cheerleading (my daughter). The action is fast but usually the floor is lit fairly well. With the 85 at 800 ISO I can usually get 1/400 to 1/600 shutter, which seems to be the minimum to stop the action. When I used the 80-200 I had to up the ISO to...

    Next lens purchase

I would like some advice on my next lens purchase. I need a telephoto...the popular 70 to 200/300 range. I do a fair amount of indoor sport shooting which I usually use a 85 1.8. I have come up with a few options: 1. 80-200 AF-D - I rented it for a couple of weeks and really liked the IQ...
