    Machinery HDR software

The more I play with this, the more I like it. I'm amazed at how noise free the images are. I've just got to sort out a workflow that is faster. There is supposed to be an update that is twice as fast but its taking me forever to download for some reason.

    Machinery HDR software

It seems pretty easy to use. You start out by selecting a template (you can save your own) and then fiddle with the controls to season to taste. It seems easier than Photomatix but I just need to sort out a work flow with D800 files.

    Machinery HDR software

Hey guys, I was contact by the author of the Machinery HDR software (http://www.machineryhdr.com/) and asked if I wanted to try it out. I gave it a go and just thought I'd mention it to you all. I normally use Photomatix as my goto HDR software. I've got the Nik HDR effects but I've never...

D800 does AMA Superbike Part 3

Great shots. Thanks for the info on AF and FPS. I've sold my D3 and I'm waiting for a D800 and those were the two areas I was concerned about. As for FPS, before I sold my D3 I set Ch on it to 4fps while shooting a soccer game to see if it would be a real detriment and found the same thing as...

A few pics from my trip to Mammoth Lakes CA

Thanks everyone. For HDR, I've given up onthe Nik software and I'm now using the latest version of Photomatix. They've tweaked the auto alignment and now it completely rocks. I very rarely need to use a tripod as it can align my hand held shots.

A few pics from my trip to Mammoth Lakes CA

Hi everyone. It's been awhile since I posted any new pics but I thought I'd share some from a trip to Mammoth Lakes CA. Because I've been so busy with work, family, and school, my shooting opportunities have been few and far between but I put this on the calendar over a year ago and everything...

    Nadja Higl - World Champion

I like these a lot. Great job with pre-planning the first shot so you used the blue rim light to match your post processing. One thing you might do is brighten her eyes a bit - especially in the last one.

    AF Problem with D3

Is it all lens? Can you reproduce it at will - such as set the camera up on a tripod, aim it at your subject with the AF in single point, manually put the lens out of focus, and then try AF and have it hunt, then switch it to dynamic mode and have it work? If the only change is focus mode and...

    50's shoot

Thanks. For #3, it's a combination of the Artistic Actions Vol II Modern Antique 1 action with some adjustments layers for desaturation and a little grunge added in using Totally Rad Dirty Pictures filters.

    50's shoot

Hi everyone. I had a 50's style shoot this summer and I'm finally getting around to processing some of the images and I thought I'd share a few. These were all with the D3 and 70-200 VR. Lighting was with speedlights typically in a cross setup. As for processing, I just played around a bit...

Some models at the sand dunes

No problem Wail. You are correct. The system functions exactly like CLS except for the line of sight and IR limitations are removed.

Some models at the sand dunes

The radio poppers are the best thing since sliced bread. They work awesome. After using them, I can't go back to just straight CLS because I'm addicted to putting lights in strange places where line of sight doesn't work. Also, having them "just work" regardless of sun, distance, etc. is just...

    Radiopoppers in the house

I've got a mix of PX and JrX as well and love them. Out of curiosity, do yours suck your batteries very quickly? Mine do...even when powered off between uses. This is the only negative I've see with them so far.

Some models at the sand dunes

Well, thanks for you opinion but well have to agree to disagree. The "halo" that your referring to is the result of rim lighting as there was no sharpening done anywhere in the picture besides her eyes. As for the skin, this was an 18 year old with near perfect skin to begin with so yes, that is...

Some models at the sand dunes

Hmm. Can you be more specific about which pictures you have issues with? The skin processing was the lowest setting in Imagenomics and the ONLY sharpening was done with a brush using pixel genius. I don't see any halos anywhere.

Some models at the sand dunes

Hi everyone. A couple of weeks ago, 2 other photographers and myself arranged to shoot 8 models at the St. Anthony sand dunes. We had a great time. My shots were all with my D3 & 70-200VR, SB-800's and SB-600's triggered with Radio Poppers. I've still got more to process but I think these...

    Spork

Good guess. That's basically it except there is only one spoon and the fork underneath. I used clear plexiglass with the fork taped underneath and then paper and the spoon on top. A flash below cast the fork shadow on the paper an then the spoon was lit from above with an umbrella.

    Spork

I was playing around last night and used Chema Madoz for some inspiration. There is no photohop involved here with the shadow. Just clever lighting. Can you figure out how it's done? Nikon D3, F/40 @ 1/250, 105mm Macro, 3 speedlights, SU-800, Radio Poppers

    "Parabolic Light Modifier" aka PLM

I placed my order for mine 12/1/09 and haven't received it yet as it's on backorder. I've got a big shoot tomorrow and I'm ticked I won't have it. I called them and explained the situation and they tried to scrounge one up for me but so far, no joy. I'm really looking forward to using it if...

Radiopopper Users - Any Lessons Learned?

Yes. I've got a Px transmitter and both Px and JRx receivers. The system works perfectly and seemlessly mixes my speedlights and studio lights together.

    Elinchrom Skyport or RadioPopper JrX?

I'll throw in a vote for the Radio Poppers. I've got the PX transmitter and both PX and JrX receivers. They work perfectly and the range is easily 100 yards plus (thats how far I got before I tired of testing it). Sorry I don't have any experience with the SkyPorts. I haven't heard any...

Thanks. CTO is color temperature orange and CTB is color temperature blue. Good points about the light under the stool. I'll work on it as well as the reflection behind her arm on the first. Funny how I've been staring at these images for every while working on them and never noticed :)

    Jourdan at the cafe

Hi everyone. I had the chance to shoot a couple of models at a cafe last week. I tried to use the warm/cool thing by geling the stobes on her with 1/4 CTO and the background CTB. I shot with 2 SB-600's into umbrellas camera left and right and then one SB-800 for the background. What do you...

Radiopopper Users - Any Lessons Learned?

Love em, love em, love em. My lesson learned - the transmitter eats batteries even while off. Stock up or at least be sure to test before a shoot. Ive started removing the batts while I'm not using them.

    Strobist style off-camera flash photography

Here's a couple from Saturday. I used 2 SB-600's with 1/4 CTO gels in umbrellas camera left and right and an SB-800 with CTB gel for the background. I triggered them with an SU-800 and radio poppers.

Mixing Elinchrom strobes with Nikon cls system

I'm in the same boat. I use my speedlights a ton in manual via CLS. There are many times, however, that I need more light. That's where my Adorama Flashpoints come in. In the past, I had the SU-800 on camera for the speedlights and a cheap ebay trigger plugged into the camera sync socket...

    ATV rig shot

Thanks everyone. Here's the picture straight from the camera and yes, I know my rig is totally ghetto :). I've actually struggled quite a bit to find materials that are light and easy to mount yet strong enough to support a camera and not shake (for cars and atv's). I've actually been...

    ATV rig shot

Hey guys, here is a picture of my fat but :). I don't think I've posted this one before. I've been wanting to try a rig shot of my ATV. I think it turned out pretty good. The 17mm gave a bit more distortion than I'd like. I put the bike in neutral and used the winch attached to a tree to...

    New Pocket Wizards, wow!

While I like the control from the camera, what I'm really after is a more reliable connection then IR. I shoot with my flash outside a lot and the sun really affects the standard CLS system. Even when shooting indoors, there are many times that I want to stick a flash behind a door or prop and...
