    Under Pressure in the arctic

You are correct, Sir. It is not HDR, I prefer graduated filters for that kind of thing usually anyhow. This was just a local color adjustment, and minor really, despite it's rather surreal look.

Those are incredible  I positively love the gradient of the sky in #1 big thumbs up mate.

    First wedding experience shared.

Thanks, in reality, the shots are quite sharp for the most part. The routine to get the photos into that page really softens them up for some reason. Of all things I am probably the MOST stingy about sharp pictures. If they are not 95% sharp I do not even consider showing them about, lol...

    First wedding experience shared.

Thanks everyone :) Yeah, some of the money shots are not included in that samples page, I did get all the key moments, though. In-particular the cake cutting/eating did not turn out well. They were set in front of a bay window with the BRIGHTLY overcast sky and a lot of clutter behind...

    First wedding experience shared.

We (new business owners) all fear them, but we must all face them. The first wedding(s). Last year I started doing them and found that I REALLY enjoy them. So I want to share the photos from the first one that I did. The reason just the first? Well, it was quite possibly the worst...

    warmer weather

Wow. Again, #1 is..very nice. I like the colors and how the model is highlighted. I think #2 could have been just as nice, but it's very distracting. It looks like there is a great deal of brushing, in particular around her hips and thighs that gives it an almost sloppy look, and due to the...

    lomopop!

I was torn about the cropping. On one hand, I totally agree. But when I made a cropped copy I did not like it as much for some reason ~ dunno. I'll update this post when I get home from the arctic, with the original :)

    Under Pressure in the arctic

Thanks :) As for how the camera does up here, not too bad really. The lcd's begin tracing and slowing down in the sever weather, but the camera and lenses all work flawlessly. It's been -60°f to -70°f here for the last week, and even at those temperatures I have never had a malfunction...

    Under Pressure in the arctic

Who says you cannot mix work and fun when the fun you have is not the work? A little tweak in LR gave this what I wanted to see, and what I wanted everyone viewing it to see :) Let me know what you think?!

just a sample from today's shoot

Beautiful model. Really nice light, I HAVE to ask though, in almost all of those shots SOMETHING is reflecting horizontally across her eyes and it is really distracting..?

    lomopop!

This is my very proud daughter displaying the lollipop that Santa brought her. I like the original as well, but wanted to make it 'pop' a bit ~ Crits are quite welcome.

28th June wedding - covering for another photographer

Fantastic job, what a beautiful site for a wedding. I am absolutely enamored by the one shot where she is kissing the elderly gentleman. It has such wonderful color and composition, again the house as the bg. It holds a ton feeling. I hope I do half as well in my endeavors some day. How...

A photo of my daughter Abby

This is one of those portraits that you look at for 10 minutes, then spend half an hour trying to form the words to express your appreciation......and then simply come up with, Wow. All the colors. Very sharp. Well framed. Stunning child. Oh, and the .45 works just fine, put some 380 gr...

How wonderful :) We have a 10 week old, and I can appreciate the wait for that first smile, and then the fun of trying to capture another, lol. Beautiful picture, children are magic in front of glass.

Berea Ky Craft Festival: Seven photos

I love those types of festivals :) There is always ample photo op. Regarding the first 2 pictures, if I may, perhaps you should soften the brush you used on the bg so that it merges better with the subject. They are absolutely wonderful pictures, the outline of the subjects draw too much on the...

    Baby Landon :) SNWS...I guess...

I would have placed this in the collective shoot, but it was taken a day (well, 40 minutes) too early! Without further ado, our brand new, 6 pound baby boy, Landon James :) Cropped full Res @ this link

    Fun with Belly Casting :)

Sorry to hear you'd rather forget, lol. And, it's not a c-section. They are inducing her :) C-section ONLY if one of them is going to die. She's in for preeclampsia and losing protein, wanna get the baby before it starts losing weight. Spalding12 - How fortunate for you to have had that...

    Fun with Belly Casting :)

lol, thanks for the comments all :) I am going to sand it down, then paint it ~ maybe bronze it then situate it inside of a bronzed frame on the wall. Something creative whatever the end :)

    Fun with Belly Casting :)

While waiting for the belly cast to dry, I took th opportunity to flex the shutter a bit, and was very pleased! Baby is coming tomorrow, so no more preggo shots :( But I am a lot happier to have baby, because I will get to drain my battery on him instead! lol

I guess it's time for the Preggo pics! ~ MAY be SNWS

Yes, again my apologies  If all goes well and baby does not come early, I will be home Sunday, I'll link the full res in this thread :) That was the most fun I had ever had taking photos. There are a GREAT many more that are equally (in my eyes) as nice. I took them just before I...

I guess it's time for the Preggo pics! ~ MAY be SNWS

Thanks, and yes, it was what I was going for. Like I said, the myspace conversion too a lot out of it :/ I'll post the working piece when I get home. In the other, her face is lit a bit more, and the light's focus on top of her belly is a bit more predominant.

EDIT: PLEASE let me know if I need to link this! I personally do not consider it NWS, but others may! Inspired by the PAFirefighter and LAW2.. The Balance is a bit off, I took this off my myspace because I do not have a good copy where I am located now. Her face is lit better. Anyway :) I...

NWS: Two Shots with my Girlfriend

#1 is very nice. I really like the lighting, and the colors of the room I love shooting skin. If I ever tried to go into a Pro career, I would probably try to 'specialize' in this area. No, not porno. Erotica. I shoot my wife, and occasionally a friend frequently in erotic scenes. It's nice...

Image files, what do you do with...

I filter through my files after every shoot and toss out the very, very few that I consider to be forever junk. Then, they go into the appropriate category based directory that is housed on a mirrored Hard drive. Once a week that volume is backed up externally then kept off-site! lol. I hear...

55-200 VR Deal or no deal?

I'd really like to see what you find :) Sources on the net indicate that it fits it. And there is actually quite a bit of light up here. In the winter time everything is white! I have to use a 2 stop filter on a great many of my winter pictures for this reason. Yes, I can stop down, but I'm...

55-200 VR Deal or no deal?

It's brand new. It came with his D40x from Costco, he skipped right over using it at all and bought the 70-300 VR. For the range, and the VR, as long as it took pictures in focus I figured it was worth the buy, but the only other DX I've owned started having motor problems 3 months after I...

1st try at this CS3 Color over B&W

I would say it is a good job desaturating the bg. There is no 'zone line'(?) visible, which tends to be an issue in my experience. As far as the frame composition, a picture with a bit wider view would be a better candidate for the effect. The DOF is such that the background could really be...

    Jack Frost at work

Openwide ~ Thank you :) There was a high attrition rate, but the bubbles did actually freeze! I did not know if they would since they have the soap base. In that kind of cold, however, almost anything will freeze. It was pretty neat to watch. It took 4-5 seconds for them to freeze, so one...

Sigma 10-20 and a 2 stop ND Grad

Beautiful. The perspective in #1 is like a vortex, It sucks the eye deeper and deeper in. Graduated ND Filters are awesome. What was the name of the famous Film shooter that shot all his frames with graduated ND's? He died not too long ago right? His stuff was amazing, they all look HDR. I'll...

55-200 VR Deal or no deal?

I've got a 70-300 G (bleh). Been wanting to get the VR, however I understand that the 55-200 behaves pretty well with the Newer 1.7x TC. Buying both the lens and the TC would come to what a 70-300 VR would cost me up here. I would tend to think that would be the more versatile option? Light...

55-200 VR Deal or no deal?

A friend of mine has a brand new 55-200 that he wants to sell. It came with his D40x kit, but he wants the 70-300 VR. I know it is not a great lens. That is is prone to CA, Tracking, etc. So I am not looking for that kind of 'get better glass' remark. What I would like to know, is if it is...

Where I Work... HOW ABOUT YOU?

Stayathomedad ~ You probably have the best job here :) Children are magical, even at the worst moments. Love the high-five! Doug ~ Amazing! What I would not give to be a part of that sort of adventure. I too work in the Arctic, though, not in such a grand setting. I work ALLLLLL over remote...

    A bit-o the family

These are a couple of my more cherished shots of family :) Rather difficult to appreciate this shot at a small res, it made a beautiful blowup, however. This is my wife about 6 months along, at Christmas. My Son getting very excited at a Moose in our yard, children make the world turn.

    Jack Frost at work

I had a lot of fun taking the series that picture #1 is from. My children have a bubble machine, it was -40° and I got it in my head that it might be a fun time to see if the bubbles would freeze. #2 makes me think of my Grandma's house, warm and cozy. I could not tell you why, however, lol...

Is it worth upgrading from D80 to D300

I've been struggling with this since the D300 launched. I started dSLR with the D50, and that is what I still have. I love it. It's my baby. I've shot with the D80 and D200 and neither of them made me want to upgrade. D50 has 90% of what I need in GENERAL functionality, but lacks in some...
