You need to re-size the D7100 down to 12MP if you want something closer to an apples to apples comparison. The was done for the D800 when it was compared to the D700, so it's only fair to do the same for the D7100.

5400 RPM laptop hard drives are some of the most painful things to live with. Even with a modern system and fast CPU, to me a system feels totally crippled with a drive like that. SSD have come down so much in the last 6 months it is hard not to recommend them to everyone now.

Yes.. it is only slight. Remember OP the imac also run mobile versions of the CPU's just like the MBP. So there is even less of a CPU power compromise as compared to the full desktop versions of the CPU's.

How about get the rMBP and simply add a 27" Thunderbolt display + keyboard/mouse. The MBP is plenty powerful to be our only/primary machine and this gets you the best of both worlds without actually buying a complete imac.

You need to start with your ambient exposure. Without using ND's, set your ISO to lowest (no auto-ISO!), set you shutter to max sync speed (1/250th) and your aperture will simply end up at the widest it can go for the ambient lighting conditions. Then add flash and adjust power for the exposure...

Well....guess what? It turns out that perhaps the D40 doesn't have it after all. Two nights ago...at shutter release 41,209...the D40 gave up. Shutter release locked up with an awkward sound and simply gives an error on screen stating "Error: Press shutter release again." No matter what I do...

70-200 VR1 All at 1/320th, f/2.8, ISO 1600, and ranging between 70-100 mm focal length. These have a bit of noise reduction in lightroom, but nothing heavy. I use 1600 ISO all the time with the D40 for any casual shooting, and remain impressed how well it holds up compared to newer cameras...

Guys I'm using a D40 still, and I regularly use ISO 1600 for every day casual stuff and find it completely usable at that ISO. A D7000 would be far better.
