Not happy with lens I purchased.

Different colour? It could be due to auto white balance variance between the 2 shots, or perhaps even different exposure. As for the lines, it could be due to sensor banding issue on your DSLR.

Up in flames with 105VR (color version)

That's really creative. I have the 105 but I used it primarily for insect macro. Thanks for putting in a new fresh breath on the many uses of the 105 VR. I will definitely try this with my sadly neglected 105!

Can someone give me a reason?

I would think the 18-105 suits your D50. Sell the 28-105 and get extension tubes for your 50 f1.8 if you want to get large macro magnification? Or the 35 f1.8 DX with top up? Or the 85 f1.8 for portrait with top up? Or ultra wide angle zooms? There's plenty of other neat lenses for...

    TOP lens for macro-portrait-landscape-sport-wildlife-astronomy-wedding-night

TOP lens for macro-portrait-landscape-sport-wildlife-astronomy-wedding-night OH wow, all in one? Anyway, I digress, if budget permitting (striking the lottery...), I would reach for these lens in a heart beat. These are the probably the best lens in Nikon stable. Macro : 200 f4, any of...

    Tokina 16-28 f2.8?

Hi Folks, It's been a few months since Tokina announced their 16-28 f2.8 for FX DSLRs. The URL shows the specification. http://www.tokinalens.com/products/tokina/atx16-28profx-a.html But when will it be available? It is already available now? I'm eager to see how well it performs...

    Micro vs standard

I have the old 55 f3.5 micro. The magnification ratio is 1:2 without any extension rings. I hope you realize both the 55 f2.8 and 3.5 are AI lens, they are manual focus. The 50 f1.4 is no macro lens but you can easily (and cheaply) buy the extension tubes to lower the minimum focus distance...

    24/1.4G lens flare

Very odd, I used the 24 f1.4 a lot but I don't get that many flares as long as I am careful of the direction of the light. But anyway, flare is a constant problem for wide angles and large aperture lens (with many inner elements). N coating will help but is not the cure all. Question: What...

More samples of the new 85....itsa winner

How about the bokeh? Is the AFS version vastly superior? Rick, I think I can understand where you are getting at. Everytime someone who knows what they are doing (and with mastery of their lens), post some fine specimens.. people jumped at it, buying the lens thinking that they can do the same...

That dude makes every Nikon lens look spectacular... I have seen some "behind the scenes" photos of his from a few books he published, I think 2 assistants, holding reflectors etc. Anyway...I digressed. I bought the 24 f1.4 after seeing his photos taken with it (and also from the folks in the...

    My question to Nikon...

The funny thing is...the 35 f1.8 is a DX lens that actually works rather nicely albeit the slight vignetting on FX.
  15. bkhong

Totally unsubstantiated, but intriguing - 85/1.2!

I thought that f1.2 on any FL other than 50mm is impossible due to the smaller Nikon mount compared to Canon's?

Sharpest Nikon ever made? (More samples Page 2)

Oh wow. It's so sharp wide open! I am getting interested in this lens more and more! This should shut up those web critics who didn't even have this lens and panned/moaned/whined about it being soft wide open, not f2.8 etc!

I tested on the D700. A friend of mine who have this lens told me that he suffered FF from only close distance, say 5-30cm from the lens. But if he uses AF-C instead of AF-S, the focus would be spot on. Another friend of mine who uses D3s reported no problems and he loves this prime, went...

I went to my usual shop to collect my 24 today, but I went home empty handed. I took over 50 test shots, and all seemed to be front focusing at short distances. Viewing the photos at home on my LCD screen makes the FF very obvious. Could be my bad technique, could be the "reports" of front...

    105mm f/2.8 awesomeness

Interesting..if I had shoot no. 1 like you did, I would get flare. I think it is due to the cheap UV filter that I slapped in front for protection.

    Nikon 105VR - Diffraction Question

Ahhh...this has been an old issue. As you get to macro distances, you will see your F stop increase. The size of the aperture opening remains the same, but the amount of light coming in decreases due to the proximity of the subject etc etc....physics...go figure. Thus the lens will report...

    'Macro Lens Question'

What do you plan to shoot? AFS 60 f2.8 might be a wee bit too short to shoot jumpy insects, but I have seen many photogs who were able to do that with this lens. Must be ninjas... AFS 85 f3.5 VR might not be that great if you want to shoot portraits, the slower aperture might not give you...

    Showcase Nikon 24mm f/1.4 G AF-S - Part I

Thanks Alan, I love the selective focus ability of the 24 f1.4, but I just keep on hearing negative things about the AF speed and accuracy. Does it mean that if you stop down to f2.8, you would be able to AF accurately of the cyclist compared to shooting wide open due to the bigger DOF?

    Showcase Nikon 24mm f/1.4 G AF-S - Part I

extension tube and ring flash question

Nikon doesn't make any extension tubes that will work with the AFS lens, while Kenko does. Nikon current extension tubes will only work with AF lens. I am using Kenko extension tubes with the FAT 105 f2.8 VR, and yes, it bends a bit if you use all 3 tubes. But I seldom use all 3 tubes, just...

50 mm Help - Which is best, and in what way

I have used 50 f1.8, 50 f1.4D, Sigma 50 f1.4, Nikon 50 f1.4G, and recently 50 f1.2 AiS. I owned 50 f1.8 and Sig 50 before ending up with 50G (the rest are borrowed from friends) I still miss the Sig 50's bokeh and sharpness near wide open but the 50G is no slouch either. AF wise...I feel...

    Macro with a PK-13

The best way to shoot macro is not to fiddle with the focus ring until you get the "in focus" dot. Do the macro shuffle! Set you focus to the magnification that you want, say 1:2, on the lens. Slowly move your whole body towards or away from the subject, until you get sharp focus...

Hmm...the bokeh is rather busy, but I guess this is common to all wide angle lens. But damn....ISO 100 film, f1.4, and you are getting 1/125 shutter speed. What time did you take that shot? I just came back from a nearby camera store, gave them a small deposit for the 24 f1.4 (have to be...

    Would it be silly...

Having used the Sig 50 before selling it to get Nikon 50G, the Sig wins in terms of sharpness wide open and bokeh. But I find the size to a negative point, thus I get the 50G. As for the AF, I find both slower than my preferred taste. I do think the AF of the 50 is slightly more accurate, but...
