Thanks, Gordon! Yes, #3 is my favorite as well. I actually just finished an 8.5x11" print of it! It looks great on paper.

    Tokina 11-20mm f/2.8

Sorry, I do not know how much vignetting you would get with a step down ring. Wide open, I would think you'd get a little bit even on a DX camera. You can always crop out the vignette or try negative vignette in Lightroom.

Thanks for the kind words, Mike! That is a good tip for shot #6. I did shoot that particular shot this way on purpose, because I wanted a vertical half-car shot. I do see what you mean about the softness up top though. Maybe next time I try a shot like that I'll do it in f/11 instead of 2.8.

I appreciate your feedback. The thing about photography is, much like art in general, that different people have different tastes. I LOVE black and white shots of black or white subjects. It kind of naturally amplifies the contrast in the shot, for me anyway. I have the color shots of the GN...

Thanks, Wally! Most of the time, I stay true to the rule of thirds. In regards to the shot with the Chevy, I wanted more of the sky color in the shot but didn't want to put the front of the truck to the far edge of the frame. I compromised and shot her in the center. I do agree 100% though...

Thanks for your input! You are correct, I did not use any flash on this shoot. I do plan on purchasing a nice strobe setup for these outdoor shoots, but currently only have one off-camera flash that I use mainly for indoor product photos. I love to manipulate light to accent specific...

I do realize that #9 has a lot of clutter in the reflection on the car...there were so many power lines out there! But I could have moved the people and the other vehicles so that they did not reflect in the paint. Noted!

Thank you, Bart! I do agree with the wider crop in #1...I actually noticed that while I was shooting! I used a 70-200 lens and was as far back down into the ditch as I could go (safely). I leaned back and squeezed the last little bit of car into the frame! It's not even cropped! Haha, its...

Is it the lens (Nikkor 70-300MM) or me?

Was only using that statement as an example. I'm sure you took fantastic photos with that lens on pro bodies, but for the average photographer with an entry level body, it's a difficult lens to use for crisp action shots. There's no denying that.

Tamron Tap in Console Finally in Stock Again

For what it's worth, I have read reviews where people adjusted the settings in the lens and said that the factory default setup was the best for overall quality. I'm sure the console will let you adjust to let the lens better suit your specific needs. Just remember what the factory settings are!

  20. camaro_five0

Is it the lens (Nikkor 70-300MM) or me?

I would venture to say it's a combination of both camera and lens. The D3200 does not have the fastest autofocus tracking, and the 70-300mm VR lens is very slow at autofocus. I do like the 70-300, just not for action shots. Remember, autofocus is determined by both the camera body and the...

70-200 Conundrum - Looking for Advice

I'm late to the party, but I spotted this thread and figured I'd throw out that I just ordered the Tamron 70-200 2.8 G2 lens for $1060 on sale shipped from Canada. That's a hard bargain to beat, with its performance being so similar to the VRII and not far off from the E model Nikon.

    IROC-Z: The Rolling Shot

Thanks! I built the boom out of 5' pvc pipe from Lowes. I am actually ditching the pvc and going with aluminum conduit pipes, because there was way too much flex in the boom. I could have built a cable support strut for it, but it'll be easier to just swap the tubing. I also purchased three...

Great tips, thanks. Yes, I will mount the camera farther away from the boom next time for sure! I did a 2-second exposure because the ND filter I have is a variable one, and it warps the tint at max. I found the sweet spot in the middle and couldn't go much over 2 seconds with the light...
