Thank you all for the replies and info. I'm taking notes and preparing - now to just wait for the travel call. :)

    Seoul, South Korea?

Wow - it's been forever since I've posted here on the forums - but I still check in almost every day. Anyway.... So it would seem I will be traveling solo to Seoul, S. Korea for our second adoption to pick up our son. My wife will be staying home with our 2.5 year old son while I go to Seoul...

What is wrong with this picture? Help please...

Oh well still no luck with jpg - or different angles or apertures. I may try manual focus to remove the lines but that kind of defeats the purpose of taking a pic of a plasma to show how nice the picture is. I think it's just a freak incompatibility of my D50 and my Pioneer 940 plasma.

What is wrong with this picture? Help please...

I wonder if taking these pics in RAW vs. jpg makes a difference. I'll have to test it out tonight in jpg.

What is wrong with this picture? Help please...

Well here's a thread showing off another Pioneer plasma - taken with a D200 and 17-55 w/o any of the funky looking banding like with mine (different model Pioneer). I'm not sure why this guy's shots are coming out so nice and mine look like garbage. :\ And so far I love the Hd-DVD Ken. I...

What is wrong with this picture? Help please...

I've been attempting to take some photos of my plasma tv running the hd-dvd version of Planet Earth for use in a Home Theater forum but I can't seem to get them to come out worth a darn. Could someone give me some pointers on the best way to take these pics? I have my D50 w/18-200vr on...

Maybe I'm just asking too much from a P&S

Brian - I hadn't tried the video on my Fuji F40d until I saw your post here - so I did. It seems pretty respectable to me for a tiny little P & S. I only have a Smugmug account at home and I can't remember the login for my company website atm - but if you'd like me to I can take a couple...

    Good P & S recommendations?

The F40 takes both XD and SD cards - which is why I opted for it. Costco has it on sale now for $249 if you are near one.

    Good P & S recommendations?

Here are a couple shots my wife snapped with the new F40d this morning. They certainly aren't up to G7 standards (or DSLR standards obviously - but for a tiny little p & s they aren't too bad). Full auto mode - nothing special - no pp. I'm still a bit unsure of why the flash fails to fire in...

    Good P & S recommendations?

I just picked up a Fuji F40 at Costco last night - I'll try to post my thoughts in a day or so. So far so good though.

    Good P & S recommendations?

I'm looking for some recommendations for a decent P & S to carry around when my D50 w/18-200 VR is too cumbersome. So far I've narrowed it down to a Fuji F30, F31d or F40d - or the Sony DSC-N2. My concern with the F30 or F31d is the slow XD card write speed - but would that really affect me...

Best site for inexpensive stock photos?

I'm trying to setup a website for my insurance agency and need to get some decent looking photos of things like autos, houses, families, contractors, businesses etc for it. Can anyone recommend some stock photo sites that are fairly low cost with decent images? I don't need anything too...

    Eye strain with CRT?

Hi Larry - I'm nearsighted and wear contacts currently - I've tried it with my glasses and with my contacts and it's approaching unbearable either way. :frown:

    Eye strain with CRT?

thanks Craig - the only thing is - nothing has changed in my workspace at home which leads me to believe that my eyes are just getting older and less tolerant of all the time I spend in front of the monitor. I may snag that 22" viewsonic LCD to just try it out - Costco is good about returns if...

    Eye strain with CRT?

Thank you Connie - I really really really hate the idea of retiring my big beautiful Mitsu 22" crt (I LOVE it!) but I just don't know how much more strain my poor old eyes can take at night - and Costco has a nice 22" Viewsonic LCD for $299 right now.

    Eye strain with CRT?

Maybe someone here can help me. I currently have a Mitsubishi sb2070 22" CRT on my main computer - my desktop resolution on it is 1280 x 1024 with a 85hz refresh rate. I use this computer for photo editing, day to day stuff and gaming. Up until just recently my eyes have been fine (I sit...

Please post some great FACIAL EXPRESSIONS

Here's a couple older ones of our son with funny expressions that still crack me up - man he's changed soooo much in such a short time. Sorry I haven't been around much lately - busy with paperwork for our second adoption and other rl stuff.

    Underwater housings?

Take a Cavern Diving course - and if you like it continue into the Cave Diving courses too if they're available in your area (Wreck Diving would also work I suppose) - great way to learn proper bouyancy control and become a better all around diver.

The BEST $8.00 you can spend on your camera

Same here Russ - I build all my own computers for both home and my office - small technical stuff doesn't bother me - but for some reason the 'da Protector was a huge pain in my butt.

    What was your first car?

1968 Ford F100 shortbed 2wd pickup with a three on the tree (and only 15000 original miles - I got in 1983). Wish I'd have kept it. edit: I guess that's not a car. Well my first "car" was a 1987 Audi GT coupe - which I also wish I'd have kept - what a fun car that was.

The BEST $8.00 you can spend on your camera

just a quick update - I emailed 'da about my less than favorable experience with the d50 protector. I never got a reply back (I was nice and diplomatic in my email and never asked for anything btw). I did however - get a new D50 protector in the mail from them the other day. Haven't...

The BEST $8.00 you can spend on your camera

Yes it was miserable - maybe I was trying to be too fussy about things and other folks would have just left the "gunk" on - but oh well. Live and learn - it was only $8 and 45 minutes of my time. I may give it another whirl with another Da Protector - because I really do like the concept...

The BEST $8.00 you can spend on your camera

I guess I'll be the dissenter in the group. I got my Da'Protector for my D50 yesterday. Maybe I was tired - maybe I'm getting shaky hands in my old age - but - it was nothing but an excersize in frustration putting it on. First - the black silk screening on the D50 is so narrow along the...

    Need help with underwater photography

I have to also add my 2 cents to this. There's so much going on while diving - especially when you're new to it - don't take a camera. There are way too many things that can go wrong when you're new to diving (or even when you've done it for years for that matter) - adding anything else to...

Kenko Ext. Tubes or Canon 500d w/18-200 VR? Opinions?

From the THK Photo Website about the Kenko tubes... So as far as #4 goes - I'd have to manual focus (was planning on that anyway so nbd)... But what does #3 mean? Nikon "D" information is not transmitted???

Kenko Ext. Tubes or Canon 500d w/18-200 VR? Opinions?

Anyone offer some opinions/suggestions as far as getting either a set of Kenko extension tubes - or - a Canon 500D for use with my 18-200 VR as a "poor mans" macro setup? Any images of either setup would be great too. Thanks.

    What's your monopod setup?

I have a Feisol CF 1401 monopod - with a basic tilt/swivel Bogen 3232 deal with Bogen QR plate (probably not big enough for your needs) - but the Feisol itself is really nice - supports up to 17 lbs. iirc and I got it in like 5 days from China. Amazingly fast service.

I'm on pins and needles waiting for my 60mm 2.8...

I sold my 60mm Micro to help fund my purchase of my 18-200VR and I miss the darn thing terribly. Unless I fall into some serious money and can afford a 105VR next - I'll be buying another 60mm Micro as my next lens.

Thanks guys - I was about to take off my lens to give the mirror a blast from my rocket blower and took a quick look through the viewfinder - the dust water buffalo is gone! I'm sure he'll return but until then I'm going to leave well enough alone.

    D50 + Kingston 1Gb Elite Pro card = corruption

Hi Geoff, Have you tried doing a format of the card with it in your computer's card reader (you know - using windows explorer - find the "drive" that's the SD card and rightclicking and choosing "format") - as opposed to formatting it in the camera? (format as FAT) I have a Kingston 256mb CF...
