Why did we sell our D300's

I know what you mean, Randy. Fortunately, I never sold mine. I really enjoyed shooting my D300 (which I order right after they were announced) yesterday. Most of my football games are at night, but when we get a day game I love to shoot this body.

    Positive Repair Experience

That's good to hear, John. I've been toying with sending a couple of bodies and a 70-200 in, but they just keep on ticking. I have been hoping that my bad experience was a fluke. In the end they did make things right for me.

    Help/Advice - Nikon Melville Nightmare with 300VR

I think this new/replacement lens is going to be fine. I shot it for a couple of hours this morning. The AF is obviously much faster than the old lens, so that may take a little getting used to. It focused great with the 1.4 and 1.7 TCs, and I was really happy with those images, too. I'm a...

    Help/Advice - Nikon Melville Nightmare with 300VR

The 300VRII replacement for the lemon refurb 300VR arrived today. This 300VRII is also a refurb. I did a little testing against my 20+ year old 300 2.8. To my relatively untrained eye, they are pretty close wide open and at f/4. I don't know if I'm a little disappointed with the new lens or...

    Back...mostly (miss my 300) - updated

Very nice, Frits. I was going to say...if Nikon has their act together I will have two 300 2.8's tomorrow . You without a 300 2.8 is like a bread without butter. Glad you picked another one up!

    Help/Advice - Nikon Melville Nightmare with 300VR

Wednesday update: After receiving the paperwork Monday indicating that they had shipped me another 300VR, I received a confusing e-mail yesterday afternoon stating that they had received my 300VRII and it was in the "evaluation" process. I called them this morning and it seems that they have...

    Help/Advice - Nikon Melville Nightmare with 300VR

I'm using this info: http://www.photosynthesis.co.nz/nikon/serialno.html In my case, I knew that the 300VR was manufactured between 2004-2009, but the info on that site further subdivided the model into 2004-2005 and 2006-2009.

    Help/Advice - Nikon Melville Nightmare with 300VR

Monday morning update: I called my credit card company Saturday night and they refunded my money immediately. Very cool. Since I only owned $1.42 I now have a positive credit card balance, so I feel a little more in control. This morning I received a automatic update from Nikon. It seems...

    Help/Advice - Nikon Melville Nightmare with 300VR

Thanks everyone. My credit card company has been great. I contacted them after the first repair and they told me that they would refund my money if I wasn't happy. I contacted them again yesterday before I called Nikon. The credit card company said that I have to give Nikon 14 days to refund...

    Help/Advice - Nikon Melville Nightmare with 300VR

I am seeking advice on a nightmare of an experience that I am having with Nikon. I ordered a factory refurb 300VR on July 4th. I had been waiting for this purchase for some time, and was able to catch it during a time when Nikon offered 10% off refub purchases. This lens was to replace a much...

Damn, my D50 is only worth like $120-150 now.

I won't sell mine. OK...it was actually purchased by my wife and she wants to sell it all the time! The D50 and a 50 1.8 are still a great, compact, lightweight combo.

    Showcase Nikon 24-120mm f/4 AF-S VR - Part I

I just received this lens yesterday. I’m more of a long focal length kind of guy, so I’ve been hanging on to the 18-70 that was the kit lens with my D70 almost ten years ago (gulp!). I was looking for a FX replacement for that lens that will be a walk around lens for travel, accompanying the...

    Going to Maui in May

We went for our honeymoon in 2008. I would really like to go back because of all the places we've traveled, Maui seems like the place to relax. If you like to shoot wide there will be lots of opportunities to do so. I borrowed a friends 10-20 and had fun with it in Hawaii. However, I...

    D7100 for sports

Thank for the thoughts, Randy. I've been under a rock for some time and didn't realize this body had been released until a couple of days ago while Nikon shopping during their lens rebate deals. I like my D300/D700 combo, but I very badly want a cleaner ISO DX body. I can't wait to see what...

These are all wonderful, Randy. More importantly it is good to hear that you are in remission. I've been absent for a while, so I've missed out on quite a bit. You keep shooting...it's probably good medicine! I'm starting to lurk around looking into a new body. I'll finish grad school in...

    Danger on the Sidelines

I broke our kickers net on the sidelines at a away game a couple of years ago. It wasn't due to inattention or lack of effort on my part...it was a chain reaction that involved another photographer and culminated with the kicking coach and the net. I felt bad and tried to help the kickers put...

Bob, it is the Rain M stand. I looked at several and like it the best. It is non-adjustable so you are stuck with the height and angle of the keyboard. I don't type on it so that isn't a issue for me. http://www.raindesigninc.com/mstand.html
