    Gracefull side of a Gull

Lar, have a look at our Tutiki on how to link images from PBase. The gist is that you should always attempt to link the original to preserve quality. Here's your original linked and you should notice the difference in sharpness. PS, nice shots.

Check out this post regarding the /3GB switch. With regards to your computer not shutting down, this can have many reasons. From BIOS settings to drivers to programs. Does the PC shut down when booted in safe mode? Cheers.

    Mouse Button Auto Double Click

Rick, bring it back and have it checked. To me this seems to be a mechanical problem rather than setup or software. There is no good reason why ALT-TAB stops working or the touch pad button executes a double-click. Cheers.

    Firefox 3 Does Profiles

The latest beta of Firefox 3 can now properly display pictures with profiles embedded. Note that this is a beta version and not a final product. You can download it here. The feature is disabled by default, so use the following steps to activate it: type about:config in the address bar and...

Hopefully this computer is a decent choice

jbear, looks good, especially for that price tag. The only thing I would swap (if they let you) is the video card. Turbo cache uses part of your system memory as video memory. I'd replace the card with one that has dedicated video memory on board, such as this. Hope it helps.

Have a look at XnView. It's fluent in OS X, Windows and *nix and can display/convert both file formats you mentioned. Best of all - it's free! Cheers.

    iMac sound card

Hehe... Here is a small selection. But as I said before, I can't recommend any of them, nor do I know which of those work on a Mac. Good Luck.

    iMac sound card

It's not problem with either - they just aren't compatible. The iMac can do surround but only in digital, and the speakers can do surround but only analogue. You could buy a USB dongle which has 5.1 analogue output (basically an external USB sound card) but I can't recommend any since I have no...

    iMac sound card

I hate to break it to you, but you won't get surround sound on those speakers from your iMac. :frown: If you look at the picture you can see the three topmost jacks - colored green, black and orange - those are analogue inputs for the 5.1 speakers. Green is for front left and right, black is...

    iMac sound card

The internal sound card will not decode the surround signal, it's just passing it through to whatever device you connect to it. Unless the 5.1 speaker system you're about to buy has a Dolby Digital (or similar) decoder with an optical input you won't get any surround sound. There are other ways...

    iMac sound card

Shaun, the line out socket in the back doubles as an optical out. You need a TOSLink cable to connect it to your amplifier. The output is RAW which means you need a decoding amplifier to enjoy 5.1 surround sound in your movies. Most 5.1 PC speaker systems have amplifiers built into the subs and...

    Elements 6 vs. PSCS3

Shaun, since you posted this in the Apple forum I have to assume that you're on a Mac. Elements latest version for Mac is 4.0. Versions 5.0 and 6.0 are Windows (XP and Vista) only. If memory serves the Mac version doesn't support Intel processors natively and runs in emulation mode. Cheers.

Photon is finally available, check it out here. It's a very fast image viewer/importer for OS X aimed to be the first instance of your DAM. It fits perfectly in my work flow, of course YMMV. I'm not going to write a review, simply check it out. It's very small and very fast. This program is the...

    MsiInstaller errors in event logs

Sorry, I misunderstood. If you only use your computers in a controlled environment, i.e. at home and not in an office or on a public network, you can set DisableMSI = 0. Not sure why yours is set to 1, it may have been set by some 'security' software. Normally this is only changed as part of a...

Aperture - Time machine - Leopard Interface

The EtherDisk Mini supports AFP, in theory it should work. I didn't mean to sound so harsh in my initial comment, however, I was expecting a LOT more in terms of performance from Lacie and gigabit ethernet. Even using the ED via the USB port is horrendously slow. The best I have achieved so...

Arthur, you make the changes to boot.ini from within Windows, see towards the end of the post I linked. The changes will be effective when you reboot the computer, no need for a wired keyboard. No problem at all, Arthur. I just wanted to make sure we're on the same page. The article you mentioned is aimed at Windows Terminal Server. That's a server where clients connect to in order to run applications. If you run Remote Desktop for maintenance or small tasks it won't affect you...

Siren sound when computer powers up

    Third Party Keyboards

I'm not familiar with the US layout, it might suffice to swap command and options for you. But, at least on the UK layout, I also need to change " @ # \ and and couple others which the script does for me. It's not perfect, but does the job well enough for now. Cheers.

Does anyone know a native Mac keyboard (wired or wireless)? I'm not talking about Mac compatible, I want one with an Apple Mac layout but proper keys. Need Some Help

Hmm, how much did you crop these? If those were converted from RAW then you must have either applied a lot of compression (low quality/small file size), repeatedly saved the JPG during post processing or used an editor that doesn't like your RAW files. What program did you use? Try opening the...

    Need Some Help

Arnie, I presume you're talking about the color banding in the background in shots #2 and #3. It looks to me as if you shot in JPG and then saved as JPG again in post processing. JPG is a lossy compression, which means it removes detail from the picture in order to save space (very basic...
