1.4 TC on 70-200 VRII or go for 300 f/4?

I'm trying to decide if I should go for the AF-S 300 f4 for more reach, or just add a TC-14EII on my 70-200 VRII. The TC is very tempting because it costs way less than the 300 f/4, but what else would I be giving up?

How much of a difference is a 280mm on the 70-200 VRII vs. the 300mm on the 300 f4? How is the bokeh with the TC? For those who own the 70-200 VRII, do you always use a TC with it? It would be REALLY helpful if anyone can post some comparison photos between the 70-200 + TC-14 vs. the 300/4.

IMO the iq on the 300/4 is noticeably better than the 70-200 with a tc

It all base on what you plan to use it for? I pick the tc-1.4 just so I don't have to bring one more lens

I have a 70-200 VR1 and a 300 f/4 af-s with a 1.4 and 1.7 tc

The IQ on the 300 f/4 is noticeably better than that of the 70-200 WITHOUT the tc.
