on DSLR's ....the tamron 1.4 F model is only $99.95 @B&H ...was wondering if the new Kenko DG pro near $200 is any better...there's a rumor going around that the tamron's have some kind of a problem with the digitals, no clue if there's anything to this ...

i'm basically enquiring about this for my boy ...he would like to use one for his tamron 90 macro and would like to get more distance out of his 70-300vr...are either of these compatible and will he be able to retain auto focus @300mm?

any help here would be appreciated...tia

    Go Kenko!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had a tamron. Bad experience
Now maybe the tc was bad.
but I will never use another

  3. I have the Tamron pro models to go with my Tamron 300 2.8 on my D200 and they work perfectly. Example with 2.0

Your son would have to use VERY good handholding technique with a convertor on the 70-300VR. Better yet a monopod because of the increased magnification.
    Hope this helps

  4. Do not get the $99 Tamron TC. If you get a Tamron, get the Tamron SP AF PRO. It is identical to the Kenko PRO 300 TC. They are the same product with different names.

I've posted this before, but I have the Tamron 1.4 SP AF TC and am very pleased with it. All of the pictures in my zoo cats gallery were taken with an 80-200 (two ring) and the Tamron 1.4 SP AF TC.

    Yeah, I know...it's white.

  5. Strongly agree!! I know WHITE, go figure:rolleyes:

why not Gale? ...it's designed for F mount nikon lenses

  9. They are not the same quality or build as the pro versions.

I have the KenkoPro 1.4 and a TCEII 1.4. Higher end Tamron/KenkoPro perform just like the nikkor - which is flawless with the the various AFS that use it. I bought the Nikkors to go with my 300, and later got an 80-200 2 ring, which I wanted a TC to use on vacation. I got the KenkoPro 1.4 here for $100 (a steal). Love it. The lower QC ones will disappoint you in optical performance.

ok, will the 1.4 pro models work with the new 70-300vr?

  12. You can get the KenkoPro 1.4 on Ebay for about $130.

  14. I got my Kenko 1.4 Teleplus off eBay for $125/shipped from Hong Kong . I got it within 10 days, and have been very happy with it on my old 300 2.8 as well as my 70-200. It's a dinky little thing, but is certainly performs well.

I ordered one from the same place and it's in transit. Glad to hear you're happy with yours. Looking forward to using mine on the 180.
