105 Vr question

I just purchased this lens and I was testing it and it seems that you can hear the Vr working for 3-5 seconds after pressing the shutter button. Is this normal for this lens?

Yep. My 70-300mm and 24-120m Vr work the same way.

Yes. Mine does too. I thought something was wrong with it when I first purchased the lens. Just take pictures.

I have a 18 -200 and this 105 makes 10 times the noise and the noise lasts 3-4 seconds vs. ½ second on the 18-200.

My 70-200 does not make as much noise or clacking as my 105. If you are worried, call Nikon. The lens is covered for 5 years. Like I said, I used to worry, I just take pictures now. If something happens, I call Nikon. They fix it.

Yep, perfectly normal. Nothing to worry about.

10 times? Different lenses for different purposes

I just went to a camera shop and tested a new Vr and
it does not make the noise my 105 does.

I have owned many VR's and not all sound the same even though they might be the same lens. How do the photo's look? My guess they are very nice.

After talking to Nikon service it seems some Vr’s have a temperamental Switch. Thanks to all who replied.
