I find in visiting this forum a lot that I don't see a lot of lusting after the 105VR.

It is superb lens at all types of duties, close, far, handheld, tripod, protrait, etc. etc.

A great midrange multi use lens. I rarely use mine on a tripod. Mostly handheld:

and I will post a few dance pics later on, add your own 105VR shots!

    nice shots Chuck, and Zorac.

I use mine all the time now for indoor event photography, and dance recitals:

  6. I'm ordering one of these very soon. Can't wait.

  7. Wade, do you feel limited by the AF speed of the lens for indoor shoots? I have the Sigma 150mm and although a HSM lens it is not a fast focusing lens.

    Kees,

It is not as fast as my 200Vr or the 24-70, but it is faster focusing at f2.8 than my 85 1.4 screw drive, so it is plenty quick for my needs.

I also though am shooting it on the D3, which makes a big difference too.

The 105VR has been a very expensive "meeting" for me ;);), because then I realize:

"Can a lens be so sharp?"

After that I only bought pro lenses.

Same pic with NIK software to soften it a bit to make it more romantic:

Thank you very much AWP - yes you are right, but I gave the opportunity to the bridal, because it is "nearly to sharp", but I rather have a lens that is so sharp, and then afterwards you can soften it a little if needed for a portrait.

That is luxury, and that is what I love - not the other way.

I also use it for macro - handheld - maybe not 1:1 - but fine, and to my knowledge it is the only macro lens in the world with VR, and I love it.

  11. I don't find the focus speed to be an issue as long as you kepp it out of the macro range. It focuses pretty quickly if you use the focus limiter switch.

I agree, the 105mm VR is a great lens:

  13. Wade, thanks for the clarification. I haven't compared the Sigma with my 85/1.8 yet but I guess that with the use of the limiter switch the Sigma will be faster and way more quiet

  14. I find this to be one of my fastest focusing lenses. I don't know why I don't use it more.

  15. I shot a few Polo photos with the 105 VR last Sunday.
    2 samples here. D700 camera, 105 f2.8 AF-S VR with TC17EII-

  16. Zorac, I am impressed! I've tried many times to catch butterflies in flight, but they're too quick for this old guy. Nice shot!

Lovely shots everyone, the Nikkor 105VR is probabally the only lens that could make me think twice about letting go of my Sigma 105.

    Thanks for sharing!

awesome shots folks, and Martin, your shot particularly grabbed me along with all of Takeda;s, heck all the shots are great, I feel like a hack in the macro world, my bread and butter is using it as a mid range tele

outdoor, pics are high contrast event shoot that I have posted numerous times before, because I have releases for them.
