12U baseball portraits...

Discussion in 'Sports Photography' started by gnagel, Jul 10, 2008.

  1. I volunteered to capture some photos of a 12U boys baseball team. All images were captured with my D300 and Nikkor 85 f/1.4. I used two flash units. The SB800 was fired into an umbrella (camera left) and the SB600 was fired through an umbrella (camera right).

Glenn I like these. Not sure about 3 and 6 .( I like the 6 more so than 3 )

The lighting looks pretty darned good to me.

Well done. They should like them.

I really like these Glenn, sweet series. Really good job on the lighting and poses.
  4. Thanks Rod...

I used selective coloring with six because that player never stops talking about his lucky red necklace! I've presented three versions of each shot to the parents (color, desaturated and B&W).

    Thanks again,
  5. Thanks Brian...

I got the idea for some of the poses from this year's Chicago Cubs program. I should give credit where it's due.

  6. Hey Glenn,

Very nice photos. I really like the first one. I'm sure the parents & players will love them.

    Great job.

    Take care,
  7. Thank you Brent

I really like the first and third ones. For me, the third harkens back to the early days of baseball.
  9. Wow. These are very nice. I bet parents love these.

  10. Thanks! I think the desaturated look helps with that effect.

  11. Thanks Joe
  12. These are all really excellent Glenn. The parents will love them. So, if I pilfer a couple of these ideas from you, do I need to credit you or the Chicago Cubs?
  13. These are very good. Did you take the black backdrop to the field?

  14. Thanks...and be sure to credit the Cubs! They are going to publish the second set in the programs later in the season. There should be some more good ideas in there.

  15. Thanks Dennis...

Yes. I took the black backdrop to the field. It was a bit of a hassle given that it was about 9 feet long!

  16. Glenn....
    these are AWESOME

    #1.... magazine material
that needs to be poster-sized on the bedroom wall of that young man

  17. Thank you Greg...

I appreciate that you took the time to look and to comment.

shots 1 and 2 really work well for me... nice work man !
  19. Thanks!
  20. Glenn, these are excellent. Great effort taking the backdrop out to the field. That is truly above and beyond. I may have to consider it!
