I'm sitting here feeling a little brain dead at the moment. What would the length be with this combo?
Also which teleconverter would you use with it?
Have any of you used it ? How well do they work?
  2. Hi Darrell

the equivalent focal lenght would be a 210mm (150 x 1.4) but on DSLR it will become a LIKE a 315mm (210 x 1.5, on Nikon body). About the TC, the simplest choice is coupling it with a Sigma TC 1.4x
Remember that you can also use the 2x on it but in that case you will have to focus manually (it looks quite strange but Sigma states that here: http://www.sigma-photo.com/lenses/lenses_tele.asp#nikon ) as well as when (using the 1.4x) your subject is closer than 0.52m
Enjoy your lens, it's really a bestseller, just pay attention when working in macro, since such lens has a very narrow depth of field while shooting wide open. Give a look here: http://www.sigma-photo.com/images/LensesDepth/APO MACRO 150mm F2.8 EX DG HSM(E).pdf

I don't have one yet. Just one of the options I am looking at though. I thought about a 2.0 or even a 1.7 but i figure the photo would start to degrade to much.
  4. Ciao Darrell

I let someone else answering to you, I've never heard anyone using such tc on this lens, remember you CAN'T put Nikon TC on a Sigma lens if it was the though you were thinking of. Besides, over the 1.4x you would lose autofocusing.

a 1.4 tc is a pretty safe bet, imho ..u do lose a little bit of IQ sharpness wise but not much. just speaking from experience with my Kenko 1.4 on my Tamron 90 macro and 80-200 2.8.
  6. The Sigma 1.4 TC is superb with this lens. A sample:

I had a sigma 150mm but never tried to use it as a telephoto lens. Anyone have any samples, or opinions?
  8. I wrote this for another thread a few days ago. "... I can't tell the difference between close-up and macro shots with the AF Nikkor 200/4 and the Sigma EX 150/2.8. As an all-purpose lens the Sigma is the better of the two but just a tad. The Nikkor needs to be stopped down a bit when shooting at a distance. I haven't compared performance with TCs. "

    and this,

"... The Sigma 150/2.8 and AF Nikkor 180/2.8D are both so good I am hard pressed to tell the difference in big prints from them. As a telephoto, the 150 matches the 180 stop for stop and it works better with the Sigma 1.4 TC than the 180 does with the Kenko Pro 300 1.4 TC, the only AF TC I could compare it against. Would not want to part with either one."

Thanks camera guy. I love macro with the 150mm but wanted to have a 180mm telephoto. The 150mm looks like it will make a good duel purpose lens.
