it's gorgeous shot... but i'm confused why you say you're glad you got it. you can also do that with a 20mm prime lens.

  10. Don,

    Hello from New Rochelle!

I've a 17-55 and enjoy the lens, but I 'm lusting for a 28-70. From the images I've seen there is what I'd term a "look" that's different from the 17-55 especialy when shooting pixs of people. Forgetting the differences in focal length extremes why did you do the switch. I'f I could get my hands on the beast I'd add it as a compliment to my 17-55.

I sold the 28-70 for a couple of reasons.

    1. I didn't like the size, it is bigger than the 17-55.

    2. I was not really crazy about the range. I find when I shoot portraits I do tighter headhshots and even the 70 wasn't really long enough for me. The 28 on the short wasn't really wide enough in the short end either, I used the 18-200 (now sold) on a vacation and found I used the 18-28 a lot more than I thought I would. So now... I keep the 17-55 on a D200 for walkaround and the 70-200 on the D2XS when I need longer.

I agree that the 28-70 is awesome for sure... great image maker... but for me just not my cup of tea for now. If I miss it to much I can always buy another.

  12. Beautiful image, Don! Yes, the 17-55 is a magnificent lens, very sharp. I see some pixelation in the sky - with such a great lens taking the shots, you might want to up the quality when saving as a jpg.

  13. Don,

If you keep posting shots like this, the next NY Cafe gathering is going to be at your house!
