  2. nice job Russell...well lit to go to f5 and looks like the D500 does well at ISO 6400...any NR in post?

  3. Thanks. The lighting there is pretty decent for what they have.

Normally I would shoot with a faster aperture but I was shooting with my 200-400 f4 as well for some photos and wanted to keep the exposures consistent. Honestly the f5 and f3.2 were "mistakes." I accidentally hit the aperture wheel and didn't notice right away because I wasn't doing a lot of chimping.

I normally shoot ice hockey at this arena and with the ice covered I actually lost a little over a stop of light. I can normally shoot around 1/1000, f4, ISO 3200 here.

As far as noise reduction goes, I had it set to 20% in Lightroom. I find with the D500 between ISO 6400-12800 (I try not to shoot over 12800) 20% does a good job knocking down some of the noise without really affecting the sharpness of the image.

Those shots should make the engineers that came up with the D500 very happy!

And great job on the part of the photographer.

  5. ah, been there done that (forgot the aperture). That's a really good ISO range on the D500...

Outstanding images! #2 is stunning! Nice to here your opinions of the D500 at ISOs up to 12,800!

  7. Great action shots with sharpness.

    Cheers

  8. Thanks for the comments. I've been pretty happy with the D500 up to 12800 ISO. As long as you get the exposure correct in camera its not very noticeable. Above 12800 it starts getting pretty noisy but its still not too bad as long as the exposure is correct.

  9. These are excellent. Pushing the limits with the lighting.
