Day 19: Rainy departure:

Grand dog Stanley was reluctant to get into his seat in the truck for the 5.5 hour drive to Boise.

Puddles and leaves in the driveway. Should have used a polarizer. A huge plus for using the Nikkor 50 f/18 is the deep hood that keeps rain of the front element so well.

Cute puppy! I like the rain drops in the puddles.

This was a safety backup day 20 in case of continued rain or lack of light and arriving later in South Florida and running out of time. Taken in Georgia at the hotel before am early departure.

B&W conversion noir style. Front of my “Bambi basher”

I tried several things today playing with light patterns and smoke, but with no results that looked very promising. Here's the least horrible SOOC image before significant manipulation into my Day 20 upload:

Yes that is Polaris. The Earth actually wobbles quite a bit. Here's a Wikipedia article about it.
Yes, I’m familiar with the fact that Polaris won’t always be the North Star, but precession takes thousands of years. What’s more surprising is how significantly far from the celestial North Pole it currently sits. I did some calculations based on it being .67 degrees away from the center of apparent rotation, but it doesn’t quite coincide with the position in frame for the 55mm FOV.

Making of "Tentaclo-bot"

Step 1
Start with a stand for baby bottles, pacifiers and their protection caps. And search for a spare sticker (in fact, the white surroundings of the actual motive of the sticker)

Step 2
Cut little circles out of the white part of the sticker, attach them to the drying stand, draw an iris into each eye sticker with a felt pen - I used blue and violet. And a pupil in black.

brings you to this, quite boring:

Step 3
increase contrast in software

Try different backgrounds and contrast levels (bad one, here):

Step 4
Use a tool called "solarisation" (in digikam) that mimics the effect of way over-exposed film. The effect can be set from subtle (1) to totally out of this world (100). This is one around 50 on the dark image just above.
The one in the thread is about 40, on the lighter one.

This is what you get if you over-do it, with an effect level of 90 on the lighter images:

Different vantage point of the subject in my Day 21 image. The Micro-Nikkor 55 makes a "crunchy" OOF background - not pleasing to my eye.

Thanks for explaining. I thought they looked familiar, but couldn't figure it out. My daughter has one of those drying stands.
