When I headed out to shoot image #9, I couldn't pass up the chance to shoot the night sky with something besides the 55 Micro, my chosen weapon for Octoberfest. So I brought along a second body with a wide angle lens and made this image:

Red trees, here are my outakes. Nicer sky but much weaker compositions, I went with the less is more, that several of you have helped my embrace.

Nice sky, but the tree is just out there.

Although I haven't been commenting in this thread, I do check it daily. Thanks to anyone who has posted a back-story and thanks to those who have posted alternatives to their daily choice. Lots of good stuff to look at in The Bucket.

I have been using a a few rolls of a film that is new to me, Washi Z. It's infrared sensitive, box speed iso is 400. I put a B+W 092 IR 695 filter (similar to a Wratten #89B) on my lens to shoot Days 9, 10 , and 11. I was entirely unfamiliar with this combination though, so I ran some tests, using 45 total exposures. Below are some of the results of one of the tests. The picture is of foliage in sun and shade at Exposure Indices of 25, 50, and 200. I developed the Z in HC110 dilution b, at 20 degrees C, for 5 minutes, including pour time. I agitated with two inversions and a tap for 5 seconds every 30. Here's what I got:

I'm liking the contrast of 50, but the shadows in 25 go deep!

EI 200 is way too fast. If the levels are turned up too much at this exposure, the grain becomes noise, and the image suffers. I'd need to give it more development, probably in an ultradilute solution. 3 mL HC110 diluted to 500mL for, like 20 minutes or so? Maybe, I dunno - I'm gonna stick to EI 50 or under with the Washi Z / 092 filter combo for a while. If I want more speed with it, I'll use a 091 or 090 filter was done for Day 8: The Dowa, which was exposed at ISO 400 with a 090 (similar to a Wratten no. 25) filter.

Day 9 is exposed at EI 100, I think 1/8 second with the camera braced on a chair. Day 10 is EI 25 cause it was midday in Arizona, which is very bright, so 1/250th or 1/500th, I don't remember which. Day 11 was shot at EI 50, and 1/15th of a second.

Wow! I forgot about all the complexity of shooting film. Props to you! I like the contrast one as well.

Your beauty is your ability to hide the subject, this is obvious, but still a nice subject, but not as much fun!
