This little place, part of a bigger complex called "Gateway City Arts" is a small grab-and-go or sit casually lunch place. Not very big, but good food. However, on Sunday the big performing arts venue just to it's right in the picture is closed off and turned into a white table cloth dining room, with a very nice brunch menu (Salmon Cake Eggs Benedict for me this time.) It has been very successful in the year they have been doing it. After our brunch, the waitress got the owners permission to show us their next expansion, in the building to the left in the picture. There, about six weeks from opening, they have built an elegant NYC-like fine dining restaurant. The brunch will move there in addition to seven day a week dining. The reason that is important .... this will be the first "destination" restaurant in the slowing revitalizing canal area. In effect, the successful brunch has led the way.
Thanks, Nick. Glad you appreciate it. I'll get back to it after a half-week respite.Happy belated birthday Harry. Love this continued look at resilient community!
Thank you Paul. I did have a good time.Happy birthday! Looks like you had an enjoyable time with family...awesome!
Couldn't agree with you more, Nick. Thanks.#7 is music to my ears, nothing quite like the old stuff for a warm and accurate sound.

Yes, the off-white ones just arrived courtesy of a four hour round trip drive I took Monday afternoon. The are Magnepan Magneplanar MG-1c speakers built back around 1980. Further back in 1978 I owned a pair of the original 1's, and when a fellow audiophile announced he would sell these (in perfect operating condition) for $100, I just couldn't resist as I have sometimes regretted selling my original ones from '78. These basically are a frivolous birthday gift to myself.
I haven't hooked them up, but did listen to them at his house before finalizing the deal. (I also listened to four other pairs of speakers he had in his living room.) My plan is to use them for a few months, then either keep them permanently or sell them and return to my Thiel 3.5 speakers (the black ones standing next to the Maggies.) Trying new combinations is like a blood transfusion for those of us with this audiophile affliction.
Nice! I didn't know the history of the naming of those. Much better that using coins or the paper cards.Day 8 - Charlie Card
On Sept 28 my daughter and I took in a Red Sox baseball game. After driving about 60 miles on the Massachusetts Turnpike, we took the MTA Green Line subway from its terminal station to the Fenway Park Station in the heart of Boston. The electronically generated tickets are called "Charlie Cards" after the Kingston Trio hit of 1957 ("Will he ever return, no he'll never return, and his fate is still unknown")
A caveat about the shot. I know the upper right hand quarter of the photo is a bit soft .... I took it with a micro lens on the 85mm, and I didn't quite get it vertical. However, after looking after my other shots this clearly was the sharpest of the card itself .... so I gave myself permission to post it.

I've posted the other side of the ticket in the bucket for those with curiosity.
Brunch with beer. Good birthday celebration!an elegant brunch at "The Bistro"
That's a great backstory to know regarding the cards. I guess I haven't been on the T in a long while. Nor I have I been to Fenway in the last 20 years or so. Way overdue..."Charlie Cards" after the Kingston Trio hit of 1957 ("Will he ever return, no he'll never return, and his fate is still unknown")
I remember dreaming (or was it drooling) about owning these when they came out. When a friend described them to me, I had go to the store to hear (and see) them, and they were fantastic. Very unique design concept.Magnepan Magneplanar MG-1c speakers built back around 1980.
Thanks, Wade. I have 2 2's as well as the 3.5s shown here .... virtually every model they have made have been gems. But that company died without Jim.Memories with your images! Had a set of Thiels back in the day also several others. Thanks for sharing your images.
Thanks for your comments, Dave.A belated Happy Birthday Harry, and thanks for sharing some more local colour. Brunch sounds like a winner and it is great that the simple Sunday morning ritual has given someone the confidence to invest and set up a new dining experience in the area.
I am a music lover as well and it is always interesting to see how others enjoy their passion. The pic documents the equipment well.
I hope that the baseball game was fun!
