This is local guy Dalton Trumbo. He was a Hollywood screenwriter (Spartacus, 30 Seconds Over Tokyo, Roman Holiday, etc.), who was blacklisted as an alleged Communist sympathizer, and was a general rogue and rabble-rouser. Apparently, he often wrote stuff in rather cramped and moist quarters as depicted here.
