    Thanks Gale and George. I'm not much for shooting birds but I needed to dust off that lens and give it a little workout. It always surprises me just how good that little combo is.
     
  5. the 300 f4 with 1.4 shines it is as sharp as it gets with little fallout with AF speed also

    Very nice Charles. I like this combination as well. I thought about the 1.7 but settled on the 1.4 to keep a better f-stop.

    Nice shots, i'm trying to decide if I should get a new 300 f4 or a used 300 f 2.8 what to do?
     
  15. Really nice shots. With my 300 f/4 could not get anywhere near that sharpness shooting at f/4 on my tripod!
