I brought my D700 and 500 VR to the Brookfield Zoo yesterday. Although I visit the Zoo quite often, it seems like there is always something new to photograph. Yesterday, there were ten 3 month old pups (African Wild Dogs) enjoying the first warm Chicago day in quite some time. I also visited the lions.

Great photos; I was surprised at the DOF that lens gave you at f4 and f5.
Thanks Don...

Many times I try to stay with the wider f/stops in an attempt to create some subject isolation. I love the 300 2.8 because there's nothing like 2.8 for isolation. I think the distance between me and the animals is what creates that wider depth of field.

Wow, what a fun place to shoot. Great shots. Those little guys are too cute
Thanks Ron...

Brookfield Zoo is an awesome place to shoot. The Zoo encourages photography---no problem with tripods (or flash in most cases). They even hold an annual photo contest.

I can't even imagine having a lens like this ....

Beautiful shots ---

Thanks Ron...

It's an awesome lens. But, I must confess that I prefer the 300 2.8 when I can get a little closer to the subject. It provides better isolation, sharper images and is much easier to handle.
