60mm f/2.8D Is it worth it?

Discussion in 'Lens Lust' started by nburwell, Oct 12, 2005.

  1. With earning extra money from work, I have thought about purchasing this lens, but I keep thinking if I should really purchase it. As you can see in my signature, I have the 50mm f/1.8D which I primarily use for portraits and low light situations. Besides the micro that the 60mm has, should I really invest the $300+ bucks on this lens or just save my money? You ladies and gentlemen are the one's that think sensibiliy for me when it comes to my money and wanting more glass.

As a side note, I'm shooting a friend's wedding with a friend of mine next month. Would this lens really make a difference to what I already have in my bag now? As always, thanks in advance.

No. The focal length of the 60 is very close to the 50. If you are not interested in a flat field, tack sharp macro lens that is best on a sturdy mount, then consider something other than the 60mm micro. At distances over 10 feet, the 60 begins to suffer, but for close range portraits, it does well. For the same money, consider an 85 f/1.8.
