This is the reason I wanted this lens... the ability to crop in camera. All these images are shot wide open (except the scale shot which was shot at F10 for added DOF). No cropping at all (except for the scale shot) in post processing. D2XS, autofocus, ISO 400, tripod. Camera position unchanged.

For the scale pic...Spongebob is standing in front of a 62mm lens cap just to get a idea of how small he is.

  2. Wow. I lusted after this lens, managed to track one down but got thwarted at the last hurdle.

Maybe I should reactivate my search.

I know there are lots of you swear by primes only... but after getting the 200-400 and 70-180 count me in as a HUGE fans of zooms.

  4. Excellent series Don. This lens is definitely a keeper.

Good luck in finding a copy Dayo. A few have appeared for sale on the Cafe.
  5. Totally agree with you. I have the 12-24, 17-35, 28-70, 70-200VR and 70-180 micro zoom lenses. I use them for landscapes, florals, sports and a candids. I recently purchased the 85 1.4 for my first foray into serious portraiture, but I keep my zooms (and various micros) handy!!
  6. I'll need it given my location since it seems all the remaining ones are in the USA lol.

I just love mine, it is such a sweet lens!!!

    Nice shots!
  8. Very sharp lens. I already have too many lenses (is that possible?), but it is one of those on my long term wish list.
