This lens isn't in the Lens Archive so I figured I'd ask.

I was originally looking at the 70-300VR, but then decided I wanted the 80-200 f/2.8 (I've been spoiled by the f/2.8 on my 17-55  )

I stumbled upon people saying the 70-210 f/4 is a great lens with an f/4 constant aperture, and for $120, I just had to ask!

My long zoom lens will probably not be used indoors anyways, thats what I have my 17-55 for. I've been needing a long zoom so I can go out to the park or the zoo!

This is the lens I'm looking at...

I used to own one. It's quite a good lens. It's old now - Nikon only made it for about a year, in 1986. Autofocus is slow, and on my copy was noisy. The manual focus ring, should you want to use it, is horrible. At $120, it sounds like a good deal. You can always sell it and upgrade to a 2.8 zoom when you're ready. But if you can afford a 2.8 zoom now I'd give this one a miss.

I had one for awhile, but didn't like it too much. It wasn't great at f/4, had the absolute slowest AF (granted I was using it on a D50), and had a very cool color cast. The MF ring is unusable (see above) and the filter ring rotates during focus, so you can't use a CP filter. Stopped down it was sharp, though. I'd much rather have a 70-300VR for range and AF speed, or a 180 2.8 for speed and beautiful bokeh.

It might be a tempting price, but if you are used to the workings of more recent lenses, it might be used too much. I think you would be better off with the 70-300, or 55-200.
