A like-new AF 70-210 (non-D) was included as a throw-in with a recent purchase. The 70-300 was very recently purchased so I do not as yet have any history of actual use with this lens.

Is there any reason to give serious consideration to keeping the 70-210 or should I go ahead and list for sale?

It depends on if you want that constant f/4 or not. It's less than 1 stop of light gain in comparison to the 70-300VR between 70-200.

I'd sell it and fund some other purchase like a 35mm f/2D (shameless plug)

I love my 70-210. I've owned every iteration at some point. The F4 constant was the best (sharpness wise) but the slowest focus. The D version was awesome-fast focusing and nearly the same sharpness as the F4 constant. I currently have the non-D F4-5.6 version. It's a great lightweight, cheap, sharp lens to keep in your bag.
