80-200mm 2.8D zoom creep

Discussion in 'Lens Lust' started by VOLKeith, Jul 16, 2007.

  1. My question is how common is zoom creep on these lenses. Mine is more like a zoom slam. It will hold at 200 for a while then fall down. This does not bother me too much just wondering if it is common. My lens is the 80-200mm 2.8D no tripod collar push/pull.

Also a comment about the lens AF. It is much faster than I thought it would be, the tripod collar version must be a screamer.

  2. If you are asking about the 80-200 in general, I have the 2 ring version and creep is non-existent. Mine is not the AFS version but I have never found focus speed on my D200 to be a problem, even while shooting Drag Racing.

You can't get creep if gravity can't pull ;)

The two ring can only go left and right.

I agree, the push pull could see creep due to it's design, but I have the 2 ring also and never noticed any creep at all.
