85/1.4 + Canon 500D

    Have anybody used this combo? Any samples?

    You would need the 250 with this focal length.

    The 500D would also work. It will focus 500mm in front of the lens (focused at infinity). I guess that makes the total focus distance around 600mm, and less with the lens focused close.

    The 250D will focus 250mm in front of the lens, about 350mm total. That's quite a big jump from the 850mm limit of the lens with no filter. It depends on how close you want to get, but I would prefer the greater working distance with the 500D, and the smaller jump in magnification between lens with and without the filter.

    As for how well it works with closeup filters, here is a quote from Bjørn Rørslett: "although it sports a 77 mm filter thread, the 6T close-up lens can be used on the AF 85 without vignetting and gives very good results."

    I haven't used a diopter on the 85 1.4, but I've used extension tubes and gotten good results. Amazing bokeh.
