    Geno,

It's good to see you back here again!

To get to the point, you may have a nice 'welcome back' present from Nikon shortly...

    http://nikonrumors.com/2008/09/01/3-lenses-confirmed-for-photokina.aspx

In the article, the poster is 85% sure the new 85 f/1.4 AFS will be released (along with a new 50 f/1.4 and 70-200 f/2.8 VRII) at Photokina in the next couple weeks...

I know from past discussions that this is an important piece of the system for you, so I'm hoping your timing with switching back sees this a the icing on the cake for you...

    Welcome back Geno.

  6. Now there's a shocker.

I would love to get a 85/1.4 Afs, but don't think I can swing the probable price it will command. Plus, it will have to have as good or better image quality than my current 85/1.4. Would like to see an improvement of the CA.

Rumors, rumors. Then again a FF Nikon was just a rumor 13 months ago. I actually like the current 50, 85, 70-200. What would get me to switch would be 200/2 level optics wide open. However I'd be surprised if these were the lenses released since they need to fill gaps first like the 28/1.4, 35/1.4.

If you dont want to do somthing, any reason will do:smile:. It would be cool if nikon used ED glass and really made the IQ more better:tongue:. Untill than , like the man says, as it is, "Im good".

man I sure hope they have a new 50 1.4, and hope it has the same quality shots/bokeh as the af 85 1.4D. A creamy 50 1.4 af-s would be nice for the DX users.

  12. Yes this is a very important piece. With Canon I was using the 85 1.2 L and it was great, but sometimes it was a little short compared to DX format...So I also used a 135 2 L. That is a very sweet lens by the way.

I found the 85 focal length to be real good at formal portraits and also very flexible.....so needless to say I would be all over the new lens. One big drawback of the canon lens was the hood rotates when you focus, and the focus is so loose, that if you bump the hood you would knock the image out of focus and the manual over-ride would keep it that way.....

So I definitely looking forward to an AFS 85 what-ever. For now I have been using a 105VR. I have to say the D700 is a dream camera come true....I also have a D3 on order for my sports use. I may ad a D300 for reach as I found I don't like carrying a 400 2.8 around that much (but that choice can change).
