A big insect (Palpares libelluloides)

Discussion in 'Macro, Flowers, Insects, and Greenery' started by Pendragon, Aug 5, 2008.

  1. I took this pic in southern France. This insect belongs to the genus Myrmeleonidae.

  2. Very nice! I remember Palpares from Turkey and Greece. They are really huge.

  3. Yep, huge they are.
And they are beautiful when they fly, they look as a dragon but much slower.

    Very nice. How big?
  5. Well, how to explain? Spread your fingers as far as you can. The distance from the tip of your thumb to the tip of your small finger is about its wing span.

  11. very beautiful, as well
  12. Awesome shot, it would be fun to try to capture it in flight, like a bird.
