At least, not often seen. (A couple of scans of some old slides I recently uncovered ... not the best quality!!)

A Japanese Air Force transport called the C-1

(Always looked to me like a USAF C-141 that went through the wash and shrunk ...)

In the early 90's, the Japanese purchased two Boeing 747-400's for use as their "Air Force One" aircraft ... hauling around the Emperor, Prime Minister, and other officials. The chief flight attendant was a friend of mine and she arranged a tour when it stopped over at Yokota AB for a brief visit.

Unfortunately, I did not get any pictures of the inside. It was very nice!!

Must tell a funny story ... for a year or so prior to delivery of this aircraft, a number of Japanese AF members went through flight attendant training provided by Japan Air Lines in Tokyo. One day, a friend called and asked if I could get a few fellow AF officers to come down and serve as "passengers" on a training simulation. The plan was to have cocktails and dinner served in a JAL First Class environment and our only requirement was to speak only English (as a test for the "students") and enjoy ourselves. Needless to say, I had no trouble getting fellow "volunteers" for this duty!! Fun day for all!!

Cheers!!

Nice! Thanks for sharing. I love the character of old photos.
