A different D90 Err…

I bought my wife a D90 body just over a year ago - New Old Stock believe it or not, came in the original box factory-wrapped. I think I paid about $300 for it.

anyway, the camera has had very little use by this time, and today while shooting it just stopped. The last photo taken is black.

Has an Err message and when the shutter release button is pressed, it makes a quiet whine for about 2 seconds, and nothing else happens.
I took the lens off and put it back on a few times to no avail.
Looking at the shutter through the lens mount, it looks like it’s half way up.
Is it possible the shutter is stuck?
Can I do anything to “un-stick” it?
Or does it look like it’s going to PhotoTech?

Are you using an old battery? I have had a similar error with a D200 and old batteries, my guess is that they may be unable to maintain proper voltage. I also noticed other random problems such as no AF response, failing to fire the shutter, and inability to access the menu or review images on the card. New batteries solved the issues for me.

I used the battery it came with, along with two others - same deal.
I sent it to PhotoTech, they received it yesterday.
We’ll see what happens…

The original batteries of my D3S are even losing power nowadays...
Time to replace.

Kind regards

I wound up coughing up to have it fixed. My wife loves the D90. We bought our first one in 2010, and coupled with the 18-200 VR that we bought in 2008, photos are simply fantastic. You don’t have to try hard to get a good image, it’s almost like cheating.
I should be getting it back this week.

That being said, if the rumors of the DX bodies being discontinued are true, when my D7100 has had enough of this world, I’m going Mirrorless. [basically] No moving parts to get hung up…
I was thinking about upgrading to the D500, but so far, it looks like a no-go.
