A few firsts - various birds

Discussion in 'Birds' started by antsplan, May 14, 2007.

  1. Hi all, this is my first post of pictures since joining the site.

Its also the first time I have photographed birds, the first I have used my new D80 and 70-300VR and last but not least the first time I have shot raw - LOL. I dont make it easy for myself, I know.

Anyway I had some time of work today and decided to head to the Scottish Highlands to try out my new camera on some scenic vistas, I got diverted and ended up at a bird of prey centre instead - go figure !!!!

Unfortuanetly I never got to see any of the birds flying - so no actions shots, maybe next time.

In case any of you dont know, I am fairly new to photograhy, but will gladly receive any comments/criticism both positive or negative.

Anyway, here they are, all shot on the Nikon 70-300VR:

Golden Eagle - 18 months old

    Golden Eagle puffing his feathers

    Harris Hawk

Kestrel - (I think, although I always thought these were much larger ?)

    Red Tail Hawk

    Tawny Owl ?

  2. Nicely done Anthony

That is a outstanding set. IMO it would be better if you included a full Body and then the portrait, but thats just me.
  3. Anthony, you say you are new to photography? I bet not! These are gorgeous photos! Keep em comin!

Oh, I was surprised the kestril isn't any bigger than he is, too! I've seen them but haven't been able to get a photo YET!
