I haven't taken any hummer pics for the last couple of weeks, so I set up this afternoon to see if I could catch the male in the afternoon light. I took these using the sb800 on-camera, and one slave flash off to the side. I used the 80-200AFD at full zoom from very close range.

He is looking a little ragged, isn't he? From the pattern at the feeder, I think he's in the midst of the mating period. Her must have picked a very demanding partner ;).

What jazzes me about these shots is the brilliance and detail in the red gorget, and the harmony between the beastie and the similarly colored background. Ain't nature grand?

Thanks, Martin! I only used 2 flashes, and some help from the sun.

Have your season started yet? I'm looking forward to your hummer pics.
