What would you call a group of Dragonflies? I'm going to settle on a gaggle.

These were shot this morning. One of the Podnhawk males not only has a really crooked tail section, but he was munching on a damselfly.

WOW. Wonderful. I love them especially the third one. Were they taken with the 300mm and PN-11 again?

Vinh,
Thanks, these were taken with the 300mm without the PN-11

#2 has been through the mill! I'm glad he got a good meal.

Birgit,
I agree #2 has seen some rough duty. Occasionally I will see a dragon that for some reason, has had a particularly rough life it appears... makes you feel bad for him.

Excellent series Paul. I love the coloring of the wings on the Skimmers but I have really fallen for the Pondhawk.

Wonderful!

Now we'll have to come up with a collective noun for a group of excellent photographs!

Thanks Torben. You do seem to have a thing for the Pondhawks don't you? Actually, I agree the skimmers do have beautiful wings, but the Pondhawks are cool.

Wonderful!

Thanks,
Uh.... Nope can't think of anything.

I would call it a "Lössi"

Excellent series, Paul!

The male Western Pondhawk looks so much like our Orthetrum coerulescens male except it looks like W. P. has a greenish face. Does it?

Twelve Spotted Skimmer is another beauty for sure!

Jukka,
Thanks...I'll stick with gaggle. Yes the Pondhawk has a green face. I know I have a good shot of the face somewhere, but I can't find it right this minute.

From this side shot you can see more of the green....
