Found this Killdeer sitting on the roadside of Bombay Hook NWR.. So what's a photographer to do? well.. lay flat on my stomach and belly crawled right up to it of course .. Got too close at one point and went past MFD of the 300mm .. I drove back later and was still near by, noticed now that it had been sitting on two eggs.. Unfortunately it is in a rather busy spot of the drive where people tend to park..

D90 300mm 2.8 on bean bag

f/5.0, 1/800, ISO200, -1/3EV

Great shot.
Bill you must be one tough SOB to get out of your car and lay on the ground with all those flies out there now. I tip my hat to you:biggrin:

Ha... Thanks Mike and how true.. Fortunately with the cooler weather the past few days, the flies were rather bearable in certain spots.. Other spots.. well a bit more horrific

Now that is a true close-up! Well done.
Thanks Al.. Glad I was able to get rather close

Nice reflection too, in his eye... you can see the highway
Thanks Jeri Ann.. and if you look closely, you'll see the outline of my car lol

Wow - I've never seen a close-up of a killdeer before.

Great job, to say the least.
Why thank you.. Just something about that eye ring that deserves a close-up

Thanks so much
