I was really focusing on telling the story with what little time I had at the dam and for the most part am happy with what I came away with. These images are more for the story than photographic masterpieces but I thought they were important to be able to convey what I was privileged to witness. A big thanks goes to Gary for finding this nest. You da man!

The last bird out of the nesting cavity. We were calling him chicken something or other. I was thinking while watching this that the bird coming out of the hole is really the defining moment in his life. He has to summon up all the courage and trust he possibly can because his first step is a doozy!

    This is it, I'm going!

10 minutes later. I think I'm going out this way instead. I'm ready!

There's no doubt about it I'm on my way !!!

20 minutes later. I think I'm going to look out of this hole again but I'm still ready to go. He didn't.

Meanwhile a little lower down on the tree:

I'll continue this story in a day or two.

I couldn't agree more. Not very many days are that good.

My pleasure Gary! If it hadn't been for you I would have played golf that weekend and cussed a lot more.

    Thanks Gale!
  6. Very nice Andy!
