For those of you too young to remember the Jackie Gleason show from the early 60's, my title won't make much sense. Some of you will surely remember though.

    Landing sequence:

    Start dropping the legs..

    A little more...

    Just a little more...

    Now, drag those toes.

    And flare out....

Thanks John. To be honest, I would have thought you were too young. You proved me wrong though.

    Frank :

I'm not altogether sure if I've been complimented or insulted here.

But another paraphrase might just offer a hint about my misspent youth.

"One of these days, Frank, one of these days..."

To the MOON Alice, to the Mooooon.

  7. Nice series.
I am really showing my age. To me it's "Bang Zoom To The Moon Alice!". The Honeymooners, or Eddy Murphy " Norton I know that you know that I know..."

    Mike,

I was very fortunate on these. This guy flew by just as I was setting the tripod down on the rocks. Luckily, the settings that I had from the day before were pretty close. On top of that, these are all almost full frame, and I had the 1.7 TC on the 300 2.8. Talk about lucky.

    Thanks,

    Ben,

You took the words right out of my mouth.

Was that a great era for TV or what?

  13. Great shots Frank, love the one where he tickles his toes in the water. Excellent.

    Paul,

I did get two or three landing shots in this sequence, but they were behind big rocks, and mostly showed the top of his head and wing tips. I was ticked too, and thinking 'why couldn't you land on the rock instead of behind it you dumb bird?'. :frown:

I can't believe that you never saw 'The Honeymooners'. I still smile when I remember that show.

Cool shot sequence, Frank. About how far away would you say he was? Reason, I've got my eye on a 300 2.8 too

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

Steve, I would estimate between 55 and 65 feet to the bird on this series of shots. This was taken with the 1.7 TC, so the FL was 510mm (for some reason, it shows as 500mm in the EXIF). Don't you have a 200-400VR?

    Scott,

    Yeah, poor Ralphie.

Thanks for the kind words. I love shooting these guys, but after one or more trips over to the dam every weekend for the last 5 or 6 weeks, I'm ready for another FL trip.
