A Red Tail from today

Discussion in 'Birds' started by DiverX, Mar 21, 2005.

  1. Had a day off and this morning ran out and found a nice Red Tail Hawk to shoot. Here is a quick shot, the weather was not so good but the bird was a beauty.

  2. nice capture George, was this high or low res mode?

All I can say George, is WOW!! This is one beautiful capture.

Now all I have to do is figure out whether all these great D2X posts are due to the cam, or the outstanding skills of the photog....

  4. On the move and right towards you!

What an angle to capture the red-tailed hawk! It looks like it is flying right towards you! Did you call? Did you beckon? Or did it just want to plop on you?
  5. George that is a fantastic shot!! Thanks for sharing this!! :D  :D  :D  :D
  6. Really well done George. What a fine looking image of this hawk.

WOW, now thats a beauty. What a wonderful view at that angle.

  9. Thanks folks! :)

    Backdoctor, this was HSC mode!!

A little on the pic. This guy was really into posing! He had landed on a perch and was allowing us to get pretty close. Finally he took off and came almost over my head which was when I got the above shot!

    Here is another one from later on in the morning;

Dang, that's one heck of a good shot. Everything came together, equipment, skill, luck and timing. Maybe a good thing the day wasn't sunny, the contrast and light in the shot couldn't be better!

WOW look at that. He/she is sitting on such a small structure as well.

    What a wonderful image .

Wonder if anything like that will ever cross pass my path.

Color and tone is delicious. What can I say.

I think Nikon has done really well with this new XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

    George -

This is a beautiful shot. Great angle on the hawk's flight, and technically perfect. I actually think that the bad weather may have helped you, because to get the right exposure for the hawk you basically blew out the grey sky. The result is really striking.

About ten years ago I lived for two years on Long Island, and I thought the birding was fabulous. Unfortunately I wasn't into photography yet. Oh well..... Thanks for sharing, and I'll be looking for more posts!

  14. Stunning shot. Does not get any better.

have to reiterate what everyone is saying, absolutely stunning and way to make the most of the moment! Beautifully done! Do you have the af-s version of the 500mm f4?

  17. Hey thanks folks! Just being in the right place at the right time is 1/2 the battle!

Keith, yes I have the AF-S version but it doesn't show up on the script.
